And then she was gone...

Commander Brenda Zephyr of the cruise ship Andromeda looked at her current problem. One of her passengers had tried to assault one of her crew members. It was all recorded by the ships internal sensors. Including all the other interactions the two had before the assault. Out here in the Black, she was the only law. Which makes this case cut and dried. Except it didn't. By rights, she should space the passenger. He had assaulted a crew member doing her duties. Such a disruption can't be tolerated in deep space. But being a cruise line captain, she also had the responsibility to return her passengers safely to their home ports. This particular crime, carried a sentence of death, both in space and on most known civilized worlds. And her crew expected her to carry it out. But the passenger in question was also the ceo of the Andromeda cruise lines, and her father. Only she knew this. Nobody else on her ship did. So what to do? What to do indeed?

The dude knew what he was signing up for when he boarded the ship; it's all in the terms and conditions. He might be used to bribing his way out of legal trouble doing this sort of thing on Terra Firma (I doubt this was the first time he'd assaulted someone, though I could well believe he'd managed to hide these things from his daughter), but the equations are much colder in space.

If he, as the CEO of a starship company, had heard about a starship captain under his employ (one who was not his daughter) not executing the full and prompt letter of the law in such a matter just because of some personal relationship the captain had with the offender, he would have promptly ordered the starship captain's dismissal, if not execution. The company's reputation would be at stake. Nobody would want to fly with them, or work for them, if it became known that there were exceptions and exemptions granted for the privileged few.

Guy's got no excuse. He should take his licks and die with whatever dignity he might have left.

The laws are more like "GUIDELINES", particularly in anarchy or the uninhabited reaches of space. The good thing about that, is it's very "Do what I want", but the bad thing is you're left to fend for yourself if you get shafted. Though, on the flip side (if you're a giver and not a taker), that would not be a problem...that's a solution. > ; )

After much consideration, Commander Zephyr ordered the miscreant into the airlock and personally pushed the cycle button. Her fathers last words were a scream of terror. Now that she was CEO of Andromeda Cruise Lines, things would be very different in the company. Some heads were going to roll. Literally.
