Animal families/groups for future dlc. More or no more members.

Hey everyone. I’m sure you all have been happy with the zookeepers dlc and the revelation of a new dlc in the future.

Today I wanted to discuss animal families/groups that can appear in the future and if you necessarily want or don’t want. Going to skip primates, exhibit critters and birds because we have enough discussion on both animals and it we all agree it would be criminal for frontier to not include them.

Canid: I personally want more, Hate my if you want! Tanukis are highly requested, some love for coyotes, gray fox and bush dogs. I personally really want golden jackals. Most people consider canids complete, we haven’t gotten a canid in 2 years.

Felidae: my hope was for small cats after grasslands, so far happy with what we got. My cat zoo has 2 habitats that can be filled so Il take more. Servrals, ocelots and fishing cats seem to be the most talked about with some mentioning of another tiger.

Ursine: I will take more. The ABB is suggested as completing the roster for NA and the bears in general. I will take a EBB if available. We went 2+ years without a bear.

Mustelids: idc, il take ‘em if they come.

Reptiles: (excluding exhibit) I only have interest in Perentie. I don’t want anymore crocodilians.

Cervid: idc. I want elk at least. I know many of you request various cervid throughout the world.

Rodents: martens and rabbits have been discussed. I only want rabbits:

Primates: going to skip monkeys as I don’t want another discussion on monkeys lack of representation.
Lesser apes: I think we are good on siamang and gibbon.
Great apes: I rarely hear anyone mention Sumatran orangutans or mountain gorilla. I say we are good on apes.
Other apes: I was wrong about the sifaka as they are different enough and not just another lemur. I think we are good on lemurs.
Xenarthra: talks about tamunda. I don’t want anymore sloths

In conclusion: this isn’t a wishlist, it’s rather an opinion of if you will take anymore members of certain families. Even if it’s not the specific species you want, would you at least take a member of that family?

Cats, Dogs and bears: Got my fill of them, dont really want to see any more of them untill other groups have caught up
Mustelids, Reptiles, Cervids, Rodents and Primates: Pretty heavily depends on what species it is

Cats - We have more than enough, not any I want to see in game
Dogs - Generally no but an exception can be made for the Bush dog because its both South American and I especially like it
Bears - I mean maybe the black bear for completion sake but I personally am not particularly interested
Mustelids - The honey badger would be pretty cool, although I think the Yellow Throated Marten would be sweet and quite helpful for East Asian sections
Pinnipeds - All good here, just don't need more
Rodents - Need more of these guys they are super underrepresented, especially the Mara but I would also love the agouti and any new world porcupine, Prevost's squirrel would be really cool although they might be to small
Marsupials - Tree Roo is an animal I want quite a lot, although my recent trip to Hamerton zoo has made me want more Australian animals, a quoll would be pretty nice as a alternative to the devil, a possum would be nice as well, although they might only work in the WTE the sugar glider would also be nice
Monotremes - The echidna would be pretty fun
Deer - Pudu would be pretty nice, few small ungulates and South American, Pere David's Deer would also be a good addition for Asia
Caprines - Muskox would be nice and rounds out the arctic quite nicely
Antelope - No more african antelope, under any circumstances. Blackbuck is the only ungulate I really want in game although I would take the Nilgai instead
Bovines - Wanted the domestic yak less now after the past few packs but I would still welcome it with open arms, Lowland Anoa would be cool, really missing any small bovines
Equines - I guess the Onager would be alright but that is it
Swines - More than enough of these guys
Lemurs - Got plenty now, the Aye-Aye could be good but the lack of functional nocturnal species would ruin it a bit for me
Habitat reptiles - African croc would be pretty neat I would choose the Slender Snouted, a desert monitor would be pretty helpful, the Tortoise was so good I would love another the Red Footed or Radiated are the two I want the most

Not allowed to talk about birds or monkeys but obviously I want those groups the most

Cats - I'd love to see the Serval mostly but the Ocelot would also be cool
Dogs - Grey Fox and Coyote
Bears - Don't care about them much at all but might as well finish things off with the ABB
Mustelids - Sable
Rodents - Patagonia Mara is an essential zoo animal for me. I'd also love to see any rabbit or hare.
Marsupials - Virginia Opossum please, also a Tiger Quoll would be cool.
Deer - Reeve's Muntjac & White-Tailed Deer
Caprines - African Pygmy Goat
Antelope - Gerenuk and Blackbuck
Lemurs - No more please, rather a New World Monkey
Primates - Any Howler Monkey, Any Spider Monkey, and Any Tamarin
Reptiles - Red-Footed Tortoise, Madagascar Giant Day Gecko, Panther Chameleon, & Bearded Dragon
**EDIT: Can't believe I forgot birds!!
Birds - Nene, Burrowing Owl, Secretary Bird, Any Parrot (Macaws and/or Rainbow Lorikeets would be amazing), Keel-Billed Toucan, any Duck, Roseate Spoonbill, Scarlet Ibis, Laughing Kookaburra, Victoria Crowned Pigeon....

Good choices all of you and agree with many posts
Only reason I wanted to skip monkeys and birds: we can go all day talking about them to the point where we lose focus if the original focus.

Yeah birds are a whole different topic but i would like to consider one group though: ratites You all know i really want the rhea but it is also the only big iconic ratite left.

Other than that i would say...

Cats: Ocelot, Serval and Fishing cat in that order i would be happy with then but are nor a priority and would cut them if aomething more important needs the spot.

Canids: bush dog and black backed jackal are my picks. I don't need any others. Maybe golden javkal would be nice too. But they are of even less priorities than the cats.

Bears: i mean is not my most wanted animal but at this point is only fair we finally get the ABB.

Mustelids: while the dwarf mongoose, black footed ferret, yellow throated marten and civet would all be more original i'm really missing the honey badger right now and it is the one that is the most iconic out of all of those. It has to make it at some point.

Pinnipeds: just like with the ABB i don't personally want it but i think the walrus is unique and different and iconic enough to earn a place in the roster. Leopard seal, ribbon seal and southern elephant seal as possible inclusions as well.

Raccoons: the coati. Just give me the coati already.

Lizards: perentie is my most wanted and Australia really needs a monitor. I don't believe in habitat iguanas at this point though would be nice. Argentinian black and white tegu would be dope as well.

Crocs: an african croc. I want the nile croc because i think it would be more useful for me.

Tortoises and turtles: a freshwater turtle, specially the alligator snapping turtle and the arrau river turtle are on the top of my wishlist for this. A more colorful tortoise would also be welcomed specially the red footed tortoise or the indian star tortoise. Would give us a smaller tortoises as well.

Caprines: musk ox please. After that i'm good.

Cows: don't really need anything elae from this but some.low priority bovines i would be ok with would be the banteng, gaur and yak.

Antelopes: blackbuck, gerenuk, greater kudu. I want them ingame. Some others like the eland would be a nice addition but the first three are very high in my animal wishlist in general at the moment.

Pigs: bush pigs are cools, visayan warty pigs would be something different, but i really don't need any more pigs or pig like animals.

Tapirs: i want the brazilian tapir sorry. Is my prefered choice for a tapir in general. But i get is not exaclty necessary and something else should take priority.

Camelids: while we need a a wild south american camelid for fair rep of the region i feel similarly than with the tapir: i can let them be cut for something more important.

Cervids: muntjac, elk and pere David deers are the additions i would welcome the most but i think only really the latter is somewhat important to get. Pudu is a nice and cute option for more SA rep as well but not really the most needed animal from the region. I would love it and find it very usefull though.

Equids: don't need no more sorry. I like Grevy's zebras though.

Marsupials: the group that keeps on giving. I guess the forums want the tree kangaroo the most. While nice it isn't really that interesting to me. I would like a yellow footed rock wallaby, numbat, greater bilby and a quoll though.

Monotremes: we need an echidna to "complete" the group and the short beaked one is my choice.

Bats: i don't mind another bat 🤭

Rodents: patagonian mara 100%. I beg you Frontier. Agouti as a tropical option as well, but not over the mara.

Cats: I think a small American Cat is essential such as Ocelot (or I'm one of the few that wouldn't mind Bobcat), Serval would be ok being common in zoos and lastly, I'd love a Fishing Cat or Jaguarundi because they look unique to other cats). I almost forgot Sumatran Tiger would be welcome personally since it represents a different lineage of tiger.
Scottish Wildcat could be fun too.

Dogs: One of my favorite types even if its overrepresented... I hope for a Bush Dog. It looks unlike any dog in game! My favorite animal yet in PZ is also in this group: Bat-eared Fox.

Bears: American Black Bear (why not? plus it adds bear to parts of NA missing bear)

Mustelids: I actually hope for another Badger, Honey Badger, American Badger. Something from the southern climates would be nice if not the honey badger a Tayra could be cool. Yellow-throated Marten has a good range map and is pretty. Sea Otter is nice in that it adds to NA and is a colder weather species than what's in game as far as otters go.

Pinnipeds: Walrus is one of the most weird yet majestic animals! Also, I hope for any other Seal.

Raccoons: White-nosed Coati is unique from the raccoon and would add to SA.

Lizards: Australia needs a monitor such as Perentie

Crocodiles: I agree an African one is essential but I would go with Slender-snouted Crocodile just because it is more unique. Nile Crocodile has a better range though.

Tortoise: Desert Tortoise of NA would make a habitat tortoise just fine I think.

Caprines: Barbary Sheep is a hot weather sheep which we don't have yet. Desert Bighorn would be almost as nice. Musk Ox is the last main Arctic animal missing IMO. Japanese Serow would be a personal favorite.

Bovines: Yak is too iconic personally to leave out.

Antelopes: We "need" a bigger cow like antelope: Common Eland. Another one we could use is Blackbuck since its from Asia and we don't have any typical Asian antelopes.

Pigs: I don't need any more... Visayan Warty Pig IF we got one would be my choice since I saw them irl and they are cute!

Tapir: I want the woolliest version the Mountain Tapir!

Camelids: I kind of want Guanaco... Only kind of since we already have llama AND alpaca. But it would be a cool animal to see in game and would add to underrepresented areas.

Cervids: One from NA more typical than the Moose and the Reindeer please. So I guess Elk. Pere David's Deer has a cool story. Pudu, Muntjac or Chevrotain* would be nice for their small size. *I know chevrotains are not true deer but they fit in category to me.

Equids: Onager and Grevy's Zebra we don't need them but I like them.

Marsupials: Virginia Opossum, Common Ringtail Possum, Quoll (nice complement to Tassie), Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby, even Eastern Grey Kangaroo are all welcome.

Monotremes: Short-beaked Echidna is IMO one of the most important animals left to add.

Bats: I want a microbat species! Even though it'd be weird in a walkthrough exhibit lol.

Rodents: Squirrel! Patagonian Mara, Cloud Rat, NA Porcupine etc...

With the exception of pigs I don't think any animal families are too "complete."

I like to make wishlists based on groups of things I want to see. From most to least needed, in my opinion:

  • The absence of these distracts me from enjoying animals from other groups:
    • Flying Birds: I don't really expect them anymore, but parrots, macaws, budgies, kookaburra, bald eagles, toucans, hornbills, and owls would be so cool.
    • New World Monkeys: There are so many popular and good ones. We haven't gotten a single tamarin/marmoset yet. Spider, squirrel, and howler monkeys are also popular and common in zoos. Even another capuchin would be way better than nothing.
    • Pelicans/Waterfowl: People are going crazy and building rubber duck ponds. Some real ducks would be greatly appreciated. Pelicans have decent demand as well. The black swan and perhaps a goose or two would also be nice.
    • Wading Birds: A grey-crowned crane and American flamingo would be nice to round out what we've got. Ibises would be a versatile rig. Spoonbills, shoebills, and some storks are also at least somewhat requested.
    • Old World Monkeys: At least one smaller one for Africa like the Guereza or a guenon would mostly bring this group to 'ok' for me, but I think Europe, India, and China could really use their monkey, too. Geladas are also popular. The more the merrier right now.
    • Bears: I really want the last bear, the American black bear. I have been waiting for my local, rainbow bear since launch and will be sad if it doesn't show up.
  • Missing ~2 critical species, with several other nice-to-haves:
    • Fowl/Ratites/"Land" Birds: The secretary bird and the rhea seem to be the most discussed. Colorful Asian pheasants and turkeys would also be awesome.
    • Musteloids: Coatis are the big ones, but I actually think honey badgers and perhaps sea otters would be at least as popular with a general audience. Martens are pretty cool, black-footed ferrets have a neat conservation story, and there are some other good options.
    • Marsupials/Monotremes: I really want the Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo. There are other good options, too. Echidnas are on the soundtrack, and we'd need a few more to build a good Australian zoo. Yellow-footed rock wallabies are colorful, brushtail possums have a Pikachu morph, bilbies are the Australian Easter bunny, and I'd even sort of like a grey kangaroo or wallaroo.
    • Small Cats: Servals and ocelots are the only critical ones left. I'd also love to see a fishing cat for new behaviors and a bobcat for local zoos. There are even more nice-to-haves.
    • Exhibit Reptiles: Exhibit animals are not the most fun part of gameplay, but people have been begging for cobras, chameleons, and a frilled lizard for ages. I also think a ball python, bearded dragon, gecko, emerald tree boa, thorny devil, and some colorful snakes would be cool.
  • There's still some good/important stuff in here, but I'm mostly good
    • Deer: The muntjac is the only one I badly need. At least one of the wapiti and/or white-tailed deer would be wonderful for local zoos, and I know the Pere David's deer is decently popular. Deer as a whole could use a bit more representation.
    • Habitat Reptiles: An Australian monitor lizard and Nile crocodile would finish this section off for most people. If possible, I'd love to see some aquatic turtles, and I think the Chinese players would greatly appreciate their cute alligator with its stubby nose.
    • Rodents: The mara is the big one, but agoutis, arboreal porcupines, springhares, and marmots aren't bad. If support runs longer, I'd like to see all of them.
    • Caprids: The musk ox is very popular, and at least one arid goat, such as aoudad and/or bighorn sheep, would bring a new habitat to build. I could use at least those two, and there are other decent options. Serows are Japan's national mammal, Tahrs have pretty manes, and there are some other cool species.
  • The group kind of needs one or two; others are unnecessary
    • Antelope: The blackbuck is the only one needed. A nilgai to go with it might be nice. There are a few from Africa like the greater kudu that I would love, but other groups have a lot of catching up to do before I'd be excited about an antelope, especially from Africa.
    • Canids: I can't point to any one species and honestly call it essential, but it'd be nice to get at least one more dog. Raccoon and bush dogs are the most popular. True jackals are taxonomically distinct and the last ABC animal from this group. They've never had a fox flop, so the grey and bat-eared fox also have potential. With a South American fox, most of the relevant canid taxa would be knocked out. While I'd happily pay for all six, other groups are in dire need of representation, and all of these are nice-to-haves.
    • Pinnipeds: Walruses are super popular, so I wouldn't mind them. I can see a bit of a niche for a flashy Arctic seal like the ribbon or harp. Some wanted a harbor seal instead of the grey. We have no SH ones right now; some choices could be an elephant, fur, or leopard seal. There are good options here, but the walrus is the only significant one. If there were more ocean species in PZ, I might care more about the other pinnipeds.
    • Xenarthra: A tamandua (smaller, arboreal anteater) would be nice to finish this group
  • I don't really need or want much from here
    • Bovids: A tropical wild cow or yak wouldn't be awful, and Watusi cattle are awesome. I don't think I'd be very excited to see them in a pack anytime soon, though.
    • Other Felids: Mongooses and civets are cool, but they seem hard to make. I'd rather our new rig DLC slots go to birds, monkeys, and popular small mammals.
    • Equids: I don't want anything from here right now.
    • Lemurs: Aye-ayes would be a nice nocturnal primate, but I'm pretty good with lemurs for the moment.
    • Tapir: I'm good on tapirs for the moment.
    • Big Cats: We have more than enough big cats right now.
    • Camelids: I don't need any more.
    • Apes: We've maybe got one too many.
    • Pigs: Please, no.
