Thought it might be interesting to list animals that are present at either your local or favorite zoo, which are currently absent from Planet Zoo; I'll start. I don't have a local zoo, but it should be easy enough to run through the zoos in my state. I'll also exclude aviary/marine/exhibit candidates, as well as domestic species since I'm not as confident on some of them:

Chilean flamingo
Black swan

White-faced saki

The animals from my local zoo that I would like to have are:

  • Amur leopard
  • Eurasian otter
  • Markhor
  • Wolverine
  • Wild boar
  • European bison
  • Przewalski's horse
  • Yak
  • Muskox
  • Eurasian brown bear
  • Peccary (we have white lipped, but collared would be good too)
  • Bennett's wallaby
  • Emu
  • Barbary macaque
  • Alpine marmot
  • Raccoon (not anymore in the zoo unfortunately)

The following are missing from my local zoo. I’ve excluded the aquarium and birds. In no particular order

Interesting insights so far! I may try and condense this data, both as a reference and because I just love spreadsheets.

As of last month I live in Philadelphia, and oh boy:
  • Amur leopard
  • Fossa
  • Maned wolf
  • Red river hog
  • Lar gibbon
  • Francois langur
  • Mantled guereza
  • Bolivian gray titi monkey
  • White-faced saki monkey
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Coquerel's sifaka
  • Mongoose lemur
  • Emu
  • Golden pheasant
A lot of primates, which speaks to something I've both thought about myself and heard from some content creators; primates are actually quite under-represented in PZ compared to other mammals and compared to how many there are in zoos. We have every great ape, but no gibbon and very few monkeys. Interestingly though, some of the more species that Philly has are in Planet Zoo, most notably the giant otter (one of only a few NA zoos to have them).

If I were to condense this into an animal pack I would actually just take the eight primates and call it the primate pack, except swap out either the saki or the mongoose lemur for a hamadryas baboon (which Philly does not have)

Siamang
Southern Black Howler
Brazilian Rainbow Boa (exhibit)

My inspiration will be from the NYC zoos (Bronx Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Central Park Zoo) along with other zoos that I've visited. Here is my list in no particular order or organization, they're just kinda off the top of my head...

  • Prezwalski's Wild Horse
  • Peré David's Deer
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Dromedary Camel
  • Gaur
  • Gibbon (idc what species)
  • Porcupine (idc what species)
  • Fossa
  • Sifaka
  • Indri (Give me all the Madagascar animals!)

Now would be a good opportunity to post the aggregated list of most commonly-held species in Europe. There's a lot of domesticated species and habitat birds listed here, groupings that are largely neglected by Frontier sadly.

As for myself, I'm from Southern Ontario so my closest zoo is the Toronto Zoo. There's a lot of species there not in PZ, so I'll be making a spoiled list to save space.
  • Grey-necked Crane
  • Red River Hog
  • African Sacred Ibis
  • Spotted-necked Otter
  • West African Dwarf Crocodile
  • Marabou Stork
  • Grèvy's Zebra
  • Greater Kudu
  • Masai Giraffe
  • Olive Baboon
  • Southern Ground Hornbill
  • Common Eland (not listed on the website but I saw then when I went there in 2018)
  • Ankole-watusi (not listed on the website but I saw then when I went there in 2018)
  • Smooth-fronted Caiman
  • North American River Otter
  • Brazilian Porcupine (not entirely sure if this is the right species)
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • White-faced Saki
  • American Flamingo
  • Black-handed Spider Monkey
  • Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
  • Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat
  • Bennett's Wallaby
  • Western Grey Kangaroo
  • Common Raccoon
  • Trumpeter Swan
  • Abyssinian Ground Hornbill
  • Miniature Donkey
  • Alpaca
  • Crested Seriema
  • Secretary Bird
  • Striped Skunk
  • Woodchuck
  • Barbary Sheep
  • West Caucasian Tahr
  • Domestic Yak
  • European Mouflon (likely a feral population of domestic sheep)
  • Northern Chamois
  • Przewalski's Horse
  • Crested Wood Partridge
  • Mandarin Duck
  • Malayan Crested Fireback
  • Sumatran Orangutan
  • Sumatran Tiger
  • White-handed Gibbon
  • Himalayan Tahr
  • Lesser Snow Goose
Obviously not everything listed here is something I actually want to see added in the game. But a lot of the ungulates and birds listed here would be fantastic additions!

Thanks for both of these! I might add the Zootierliste info at some time, but people have done that already and I would like to focus on forum users' personal experiences and on non-European zoos in general.

We have others missing but the main ones are Masai Giraffe, Andean Bear, Gibbons - several types, Red River Hog, Two toed Sloth and Cape Porcupine. And birds..so many birds

Personally i really want to see those animals in PZ
whitetail deer
collared peccary
Barbary sheep
Emu
American Flamingo
yucatan spider monkey
Dromedary Camel
Mexican Crocodile
Nile Crocodile
Red deer
Guanaco
Coati
Ocelot

scimitar horned oryx
Rhea
Axis Deer
Aguti Mexican
capybara
Gaur
and almost all animals of the "Zoologico Centenario" because both are "brothers"

My nearest Zoo is Hamerton Zoo Park

Looking at their collection, and excluding aviary species, looks like the headliners of what PZ currently lacks:

  • Alpaca
  • Black Howler Monkey
  • Caracal
  • Common Wombat
  • Cotton Top Tamarin
  • Greater Rhea
  • Grey-necked Crowned Crane
  • Lar Gibbon
  • Maned Wolf
  • Marabou Stork
  • Red-necked Wallaby
  • Sarus Crane
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Serval
  • Short-beaked Echidna
  • Tiger Quolls
  • Two-toed Sloth
  • White Stork

Theyre got a bunch of other small carnivorans and marsupials too, plus reptiles, Syrian Brown Bear and a bunch of birds, but these seemed the most applicable to PZ anyway, and wouldn't have complaints about any of these joining the game!

There are so many animals at my local London Zoo that I’d love to have in game:
•Two Toed Sloth
•Southern Tamandua
•Coatimundi
•Lar Gibbon
•Black and White Colobus Monkey
•Black Capped Squirrel Monkey
•Golden Lion Tamarin
•Asian Small-Clawed Otter
•Red River Hog

•Asiatic Lion
•Humboldt Penguin
•Dwarf Crocodile
•American Flamingo
•Alpaca
