Habitat animals:
  • Either short- or long-beaked echidnas
  • Carnivorous marsupials such as Tasmanian devil or quoll
  • Any species of possum or cuscus
  • Armadillos
  • Manatees
  • Hyraxes
  • Porcupines of any species
  • Any species of tree squirrel
  • Any large rat (giant pouched rat, Malagasy giant rat, giant cloud rat etc.)
  • Rabbits or hares
  • Any long-tailed African monkey (seriously, the only African monkey we have is the mandrill - getting a couple more of these is probably the highest priority)
  • Small cats (in terms of size - technically the cheetah, cougar and lynx are all classed as small cats, even though they are in the top ten largest cat species)
  • Any species of Madagascan carnivore (fossa most obvious, but also the fanaloka, bokiboky, falanouc and various kinds of vontsira)
  • Martens
  • True small ungulates (muntjac, tufted or water deer, chevrotains, duikers, dik-diks or royal antelope)
  • Any species of wildfowl
  • Pelicans
  • Storks, herons, ibises and spoonbills

Walkthrough exhibit species:
  • Some mammals probably too small to be habitat animals (hedgehogs and giant elephant shrews spring to mind)
  • Small gliding mammals (like the smaller flying squirrels or sugar gliders)
  • Two-toed sloth
  • Smaller birds (any at all, whether they be flying birds or ground-dwellers like partridges)
  • Butterflies

When we get into exhibit invertebrates, there are loads of fairly regular types in zoos that are missing from the game. I don't think we'll get any more arachnids (I imagine for an arachnophobe, a spider getting a DLC slot could be what makes or breaks the decision to buy the pack) and I don't think we need any more snails (most are variations of the African giant snail, other than a few zoos with the extinct-in-the-wild Partula snails, which are kept in very basic lab-type enclosures that are easy to disinfect). But there are plenty of choices for insects, including:
  • Grasshoppers, locusts, katydids or crickets
  • Praying mantises
  • Assassin bugs
  • True stick insects (I know the leaf insect is technically a stick insect, but actual stick-like species are much more commonplace)
  • Land and freshwater crabs
  • Smaller beetles and cockroaches (species which can be kept in huge numbers are often found in zoos, and the new population automation would make them easier)
  • Social insects (still not certain they will ever come, but leaf-cutting ants especially are often kept in zoos)
  • True worms (a number of zoos keep some sort of species of large leech in freshwater aquaria)

Among exhibit herptiles:
  • Chameleons
  • Geckos
  • Colubrid snakes (despite containing nearly three-quarters of all snake species, there are none at all in Planet Zoo)
  • Small tortoises
  • Toads (scientifically speaking they are no different from frogs, but many have very distinct appearances and requirements)
  • Aquatic caecilians (becoming increasingly common in captivity)
