General / Off-Topic Annihilation [Netflix Movie]

Is the internet full of that? Hadn't noticed. lol.

Yeah, it was a great scene. Was it the most scary scene ever? No. It was memorable though. :)

Yes exactly. It was a solid horror scene, but people are really g out, for some reason. :D

edit: Really, swearfilter? Really?

I must say it was ok to watch, and I like it even though some of the charterers was a bit cliche in their appearance.

Was for me I had to clean the sofa afterwards... :D

I was really looking forward to seeing this, came away disappointed.

The shimmer effect was the best part of the film, that and the two deer like creatures, lots of talking heads and some real stupid moments, most of the plot line was predictable.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
THAT memorable, huh?

It was for Jenner... I had to leave a light on for him all night....

Well, I just got done watching a new movie call Annihilation, with Natalie Portman in it.

Overall, a massive yawn fest full of dull dialogue, and bad acting. Just like most movies with her in. Lol

But.

Two bits got my attention, and mostly redeemed it, as "not a complete waste of time".

The "Mocking Bear".
The trailer made that monster look incredible tacky, like from a bad 1980s horror, which almost put me off watching the movie.

But it's a frikkin Mocking... Bear.
You have to watch it to understand. Creepy is hell.

The second scene was the final bit. Which basically brought back old memories of the doppelganger level from the original Tomb Raider game... Lol
So points just for that.

All in all. Not worth watching. Except for the mocking bear.
Which may or may not give you nightmares.
Lol

A lot of the movie seemed familiar though, like it was heavily inspired by a load of horror games, like Dead Space, and Doom...

I thought Portman was quite good in Léon, V for Vendetta, Black Swan and ok in the Thor films. Annihilation looks like pants though

And you ? What would you do for love ?

Poor characterisation, impossible to empathize with anyone, which seems to be a recent thing after Lost In Space.

Multiple PC checkboxes ticked. Females all gung ho. Reticent/dead/incompetent males.
Race and LGBT boxes covered in theory however the characters are so poorly drawn that they add no new dynamics and might as well have been a group of white, lower class male jarheads for all the good it did.

But what did it for me was the glowing eyes. Seriously reversed FTW is it with US shows and glowing eyes.

I stopped watching Shanara(?) chronicles for that reason among others. Shadowhunters was another.

IMO if a show needs to resort to glowing eyes to reveal that a character is not entirely what they seem, they need the writer/screenplay director replacing.

However, their concept of refraction was awesome.

For me, the best part were the human shaped bushes. Super creepy.

Yeah, the eyes thing is way over done, but, I can't think of a better way.

I was expecting the human shaped bushes to move. Alas they didn't. But I was still waiting for it.

The bear didn't give me nightmares or anything, it just stuck with me after the movie ended.
I love horror movies, and almost none have that ability. Maybe it's because I love bears. Lol

And Natalie Portman is a crap actress. She ruined Thor and Starwars her complete lack of ability to have chemistry with another actor. :p

Seriously, you're going to use Thor and Hayden Christensen as valid sounding boards (literal boards!) for that argument! :D

Well Jumper was quite good, and Hayden Christensen had good chemistry with the other woman.

Chris Hemsworth has had chemistry with other actresses, and is hilarious. Thor 3, with no Natalie Portman. Brilliant!

Literally the best bit about Starwars, with Natalie Portman in, was when she died, then the movie suddenly got better. Lol

She's still better than Kristen Stewart though. Just.

Now I feel compelled to watch an entire movie just to see a mocking bear.

Shannara Chronicle was pants, just like the books. But yeah, glowing eyes is a bit lame.
