Announcing early access to the BGS Guide 2025 DRAFT for review and comment

o7 Cmdrs!

I'm pleased to announce early access to the BGS Guide 3.0 for 2025, which is being updated to include more information about the interactions between BGS and PowerPlay 2.0, colonization (although this is subject to a lot of change as we learn about the BGS implications of colonizing new systems), and the updates to the game since the Trailblazers update.

The BGS Guide has a new URL: https://sinc.science/bgsguide.pdf

I'm looking for reviewers and anyone with new content they would like included. If you want to collaborate on the text, I'd be happy to do so.

My completed list so far includes:
  • Renovating the station news section to remove local and global bounties, improved the description of station news
  • Added modern ships to the ship build list
  • Improved expansion timetables section
  • Improved the list of tools to match those of the new #info update on the ED BGS server I made

My TODO list is as follows:

Text
  • tl;dr
  • BGS in a nutshell with FAQ (similar to "Help! I'm being attacked by murder monkeys")
  • See about making the document into a wiki or similar rather than a HUGE single PDF
  • BGS and PowerPlay 2.0 - how best to manipulate the BGS to maximize merits (and/or minimize PP murder hobos)
  • Trailblazers - document what we know so far, such as how the first four factions are seeded
  • Improve state effect descriptions, particularly in relation to top three trade and mission types
  • Document BGS errata / bugs with Colonization so that the text doesn't need to be completely re-written every time a bug is fixed

Experiments
- Retest the BGS impact of carrier transfers. This was nerfed in PP 2.0. Was it nerfed in BGS?

Lastly, the Guide has a new Discord home, the ED BGS server. I'm no longer actively involved with the Sirius Inc squadron, as I've moved to be an Enforcer with Pranav Antal, it makes sense to keep the BGS community together in one place. I've updated the links in the #info channel on the ED BGS server, and these are included in the BGS Guide as well.

Feel free to discuss here, or on the ED BGS Server.

Well done, and thank you!

As someone starting with little to no knowledge of how the BGS mechanics work, I found this guide it to be very readable and informative.

Hello. Thank you so much for sharing your work with the guide. I'm currently reading it (I read the old version), and I'd like to learn more about how to change the happiness of a system of which I'm the architect.

Federation, democracy, extraction, high security, population of almost 300,000. It's not part of any superpower.

I read in the previous guide that trading weapons, destroying pirates, and claiming bounties helped improve the system's security status (I did that and the marker moved a little). That's what I'm doing so far. Thank all of you again and regards.

New version. nice! (y) Just curious if there can be summarised most painful issues coming with PP2 and Colonisation which makes doing BGS on bigger scale not much pleasant experience (difficult how to describe it correctly, things which were for a long time a main interest for me are changing). Game is obviously in the motion/change especially considering BGS processes.
