Annoyed exploring,,

Going straight to the target.
One thing the devs introduced in 1.3 is the ability to set a target from the system view. But the "box" is shadowing so many planetary bodies so you cant target them. Its darn annoying when you do exploring and try to find out the composite or just check a planet when that "box" cover many of the bodies so you cant target them. I dunno the reason you added this to the game as I really don't se any purpose

Yes it is annoying, the box needs to be either offset of be able to be clicked through.

You can use the WASD keys to move the targeting box tho so at least there is a workaround for it

Aye. but I still cant figure out the purpose to target a body from the galaxy map. They just copy and pasted the target box from the galaxy meny. An it obscure. Just annoying.

I don't entirely get what you're saying so I don't see your issue, but I'm guessing when you say box, you mean the reticule for highlighting something in system view to target and scan.

My gaming is down with a 360 controller. It works great in selecting targets from system view. But if you are having a problem with system view (please clarify if needed), then there's nothing to stop you from using the nav menu.

He is talking about the pop-ups, none of which work reasonably. Eg:
In the system map the infobox prevents you from selecting the objects underneath it.
In the galaxy map the infobox for the current system appears on opening and cannot be closed, again obscuring other systems.

How difficult is to have pop-ups that appear when you hover on the trigger and close when you don't? Like on any other gui.
At least let us close all pop-ups by clicking on an empty part of the display, or something.

The targeted body in system map has a popup sort of menu that comes up when you target it. Like a speech bubble? That's too big, and makes it impossible to target next body. You have to zoom way out, or move way over to move to next target.

I cant target the next gas giant in this system because its obscured by the select route etc box,,,
Se the black box stretching over next gas giant so its not possible to target it and get info about it.

It's ever so slightly better than it was in 1.3, I think they've off set it slightly in the later patches, but I agree it's a pain.

When I'm in the system map now I hold the left and right mouse buttons to move the targeting box over planets, or more precisely, move the planets into the target box.

It's not ideal, and certainly not as good as being able to click on a planet directly like we used to be able to do, but I find it's a useful workaround until it's (hopefully) fixed.

The issue is that after you select an object, the highlight box and info panel prevent you from clicking anything beneath it. This is because it is designed to be compatible with a console controller. You can tell thats whats up because it works flawlessly if you use WSAD keys -emulating the control sticks of a controller.

It needs to be transparent to mouse clicks so that people using a mouse can.. you know, use the map. No doubt this was added in preparation for their X-box release, hopefully it is a minor oversight they will fix soonish. It is pretty damn annoying if you are exploring, but not insurmountable.

PS: Using the system map is an integral part of exploring. "Use the nav menu" is not a good solution to a very obvious design flaw/bug in the UI.

Yeah I've noticed this. It's a weird - lets call it "feature" of the new system. One that won't stick around too long.

Of course we could do this sort of targeting the old fashioned way, but since they added this to the System Map it should worth there too.

I find this overlay to be very offputting, also i usually take screenshots for the universal cartographic records when/if i find a record breaker of a star/planet and this new overlay obscures and just gets in the way.

How about fade it out if not clicked within a few seconds? surely that is the answer here?

Yes, this is a real pain, it really spoils the screenshot for those of us who want to take them. Might not be a high priority for PvPers gameplay, but for Explorers that want to record their exploration it's awful.

I use a mouse in the system and galaxy maps. It is the most efficient way to use them. If the maps have been tweaked to be compatible for xbox controllers then there should be an option added in the keybindings to make the maps compatible with whatever controller is in use.

Thanks OP - I wanted to open this topic as well and see you are already on it!
Very annoying - I agree 100%.

That sounds like a solution?

It is also a totally pointless change. All that I formation was already visible in on the left hand info tab

They introduced when they introduced the option to select the target in the system map.
Personally I don't like that functionality.
But even if they have it, this can be done better with the box at least.
