Engineers Annoyed.

For the first time since I have played the game I have had the game crash. I have encountered so many bugs that I just don't have the energy to do a proper bug report for each one. Don't you have staff for that?

Look, I love the game, I'm addicted to it, I have lots of game time logged, have tonnes of paintjobs, joined a wing, convinced a friend to buy it too. I just can't get enough. But with 2.1 I am getting fed up.

I would rather have waited an extra week, an extra month, an extra six months, for something that was properly tested and implemented, and gone through with a fine toothed comb, for a release that was bug free and exactly as the devs wanted it. But what we have is a bug-fest. from the slider under my radar not moving, to essential items not being in a working state, from not being able to type in comms or in the galaxy map search bar, to the game completely crashing while in mid-air over farseer inc. (all of which happened within a 30min sitting)

Then we have the npcs and engineer mods, we have to work hard, and grind to get everything the engineers want so we can mod our ships, yet two of the starting engis were completely off limits because of item bugs, and as much as we are told that mods should be uncommon, the npc ships almost have them as standard. And don't get me started on buffs and nerfs, a low ranked npc cobra should not be able to near destroy a python in under 10 seconds, but hey I got interdicted by one and was down to 52% hull in under 10 seconds without even laying eyes on it. even with a C6 shield it shouldn't go down that fast and the hull get so damaged by a smaller ship especially if engi mods are supposedly uncommon on npcs. Small ships should be able to out-maneuver big ships but not out-gun them as well.

With the bugs still in the game (yes I know there will be patches) and the npc difficulty spike, the buffs and nerfs, as a mostly PvE player, I am finding it harder to enjoy.

The fact that small weapons can even touch the biggest ships is absurd as well, not to mention the joke that turrets still are, and the fact that most mods defeat themselves when you try to get one.

There will always be bugs, even if they waited for 6 mnths, somethings can only be tested once live with the full player count involved. As for the NPC difficulty, sorry not seeing what happened to you in my game so far, i was interdicted by a diamondback yesterday, i am master rank, he was Dangerous, but i took him out fairly quickly with my Asp, and 2 beams and multi cannons, and i have no mods at all just now.

I make no claims personally about the nerfs and what not, nor about the interdictions and such, only the broken AI; as in getting shot, stopping, and spinning in place. That kind of broken. At the very least i'm not getting rammed 40+ times an hour anymore....

Just because one player hasn't personally experienced it, doesn't mean it isn't happening. Just look at the millions of threads about it to get an idea of how much it is affecting players.

^ This. I have spent a shameful amount of time trying to document all the things that have gone sideways for me through beta, as well as Thursday through today while dealing with a massive exodus of friends that couldn't spend any more of their precious time on it and have simply walked away from the game after this patch.
The main features of 1.6/2.1, Missions/Engineers respectively, have yielded me nothing. Every single allied faction I visit at any starport I've visited (Not major factions/superpowers - but minor factions) offer 0/0 missions. I'm not talking missions that are not available due to wrong ship type/no cargo/etc, but actual 0/0 missions. Minor factions I'm neutral with, after far too much travel time searching, can yield me a mission now and then. What I get offered to me: ONE Courier mission that pays peanuts, or a donation mission wanting an absurd amount of money. OK, missions seemed bugged. Let's try engineers.

It's been 3 straight days of game time for me of scanning wakes, collecting space debris parts, tag-scanning other ships, and driving a buggy around endlessly looking for the materials needed - and this is with using the tooltips provided. I still do not have a single complete recipe for a Tier 1 entry-level upgrade that I actually want. I'm sorry, but I just can't endorse this as fun or worthwhile in its current state, and what is normally a packed community of folks I've gotten to know over the past two years is now an empty voice/chat server with just me there. Reaching out on steam/skype/discord to find out why, the general consensus is: The time-grind just isn't worth their time. That has to trip *some* alarms here, doesn't it?

I'm accepting the fact that my own position as an ambassador for this game is potentially at risk in my offering of some blunt, uncomfortable (yet genuine), and honest criticism is not going to sit well with some folks. However, integrity trumps that position and I feel it's just the right thing to do. Ignoring a problem that affects a large number of people (perhaps small to some) is not going to make it go away. Kudos to those that don't have the problem of collecting these mats in that time frame, or their daily amount of time to play not spent by simply traveling A-B, or collecting the insane amount of materials, cargo, data that is needed, or have that amount of disposable time available to do so. Myself and the number of others that I'm directly aware of (mentioned above) simply do not. It's just not worth the time that needs to be invested right now to feel we've made any kind of meaningful or rewarding progress.

Edit: formatting/typos.

ED is coming really close (or is already there, depending on who you ask) to "Why bother?" in a lot of areas of gameplay. Gotta be fun or: why bother?

Make it fun, FD.
