Another bugged mission!

So, moBo, you're just the man to take on the job of assassinating Ahmed Cleaver. Get to it right away. I meet up with the usual middle man scaredy-cat telling me how NOT to go to Orrere, as that big bad Ahmed is wooping some trouble over there, yadda yadda yadda. I head straight there, and finally, after an hour of USS checking, he turns up. In an ORCA! ( expecting the usual Elite anaconda ). So I scan him anyway, and he is clean and simply ignores me. That's right, like you I'm thinking not the correct Ahmed, but I dispose of him anyways. Getting close to 2 hours now, and I am on the 7th Orca flying bloomin Ahmed Cleaver. Tried all the things you would to maybe reset the mission, in and out of zone, back to base, log off-n-on. Nope, bugged no matter what!
I have been watching and reading the forums for many a moon now, reading how many folks have been having this problem and that, nothing that up until very recently has reflected my own gaming experience one little bit. But this past week, sadly it's been one bug after another showing it's ugly face, and doing it's best to try and destroy my long awaited ED gaming fix. Really starting to see the cracks in the engine-mechanics that I had hoped the long tested alpha-beta-gamma phase would have ironed out.
Roll on the end of the holidays and bring on the next patch asap please.

Little update: Logged off the game and left it for an hour or so, and everything is still the same. Constantly Mr Ahmad Cleaver keeps turning up in an Orca and no matter how many times I kill him, it is obviously the right guy in the wrong craft. Yet again, another bugged-broken mission that leaves me no choice but to abandon it. This off course has an effect on my faction standings and is really starting to get annoying. I love the game, but it's a constant building up of all the little bugs and broken parts of the game thats wasting HOURS of my game time, thats really starting to grind on my patience! Grrrr!!!!

That guy certain has a lot of clones of himself...

Pardon my TLDR, but did your mission progress to a point where it narrowed the assassination target to one system? If not, try to go to another of mentioned system and see if ti will narrow it down. Once it's down to one system, the correct Ahmed should spawn.

Mr. Ahmed clearly has a lot of cash for insurance.

Do you have a KWS? Or just the standard one that comes with every ship?

Z...

Thank you for the suggestion, but been there done that. Tried every avenue, but still the same fella in his Orca constanly showing up. Tired of it now (always seems to be the Feds missions that get bugged for me?) and have just abandoned it and yet again took a hit to my Faction reputation. Always one step forward two steps back ever since I stopped with the trading and moved onto the story-missions-ranking part of the game.
Sorry for the grumble, these little niggles just forced the need to vent. NEXT!

Edit: I should point out I'm playing in solo and yes I have a fully kitted A class cobra with KWS ;)

Yeah, I had a mission like that once long ago. I think it was bugged the same way. I think it was one of the cheaper paying ones, and I avoided since anything under 130k or anything that sounds strange.

For the record it was paying 150K. Just really seems to have been this past few days that the bugs are showing up. Also just a wee bit curious as to how I am now up to Warrant Officer with the Feds yet still no Sol permit? From what I read, most folks got the Sol permit long before that??? Ah well, suppose it will all get sorted and smoothed out in future patches. In the meantime...patience moBo, patience *said with gritted teeth*.

I think you still need to raise your rep with the Federation, as rank is independent of rep. Before clearing my save, I had unfriendly rep with the Feds and was ranked recruit after doing a mission for local Federal allies in a system. I also had Friendly rep with a minor Imperial faction but was considered hostile to the Empire due to the massive reputation hit I got in early Gamma when I was caught hauling abandoned canisters of Prototype Tech.

TL;DR: Try getting more rep with the Federation and its' local factions near Sol. Eventually you should pick up a permit.

I have a Sol permit, but it was a backer's/early access reward.

Thanks for the advice, and I think you are correct. With the past couple of days and buggy missions with the Feds, my "rep" has been taking a hit. It's no rush biggy that I get the Sol permit, I have been getting others, it's just one of those things to tick of the list. But yes, again thanks for the tip and I will continue to work on upping my reputation with the Federation...in the short term ;)

For the sol permit, maybe see if you can find "federal congress" faction somewhere and get allied with them. I can't say much cause I got sol permit with Beta access.
I got a bit of faction/mission info in my FAQ in the signature below. It's from what I found out so far, but it may not be 100% accurate.

Seems another pilot had the exact same mission bug....
I've been trying to complete an assassination mission. The culprit repeatedly shows up at USS locations...in an Orca. With a clean record, even after a KWS scan. He turns and runs as soon as I deploy weapons. Doesn't offer any resistance (it's futile). Killed him two different times and it didn't update the contract. He just popped back up at a different USS location a few minutes later...still in an Orca. Still trying to run from me. I've tried logging out, etc. I cannot finish the mission. This isn't the only mission I will not finish because of bugs. I've had others that wouldn't let me give the cargo when I brought it back to the station, even though it said I had exactly what they were looking for.

My reputation is now shot from incomplete missions. I keep trying to build it back up after these little dilemmas but then something else happens to ruin it some more. I've decided to just forget about reputation and rank gain. They no longer offer me missions to gain rank anyway. I guess I'll just stick to bounty hunting. At least now I won't have to worry about sparing the ones considered "friendly", so as not to ruin my reputation. From now on, if they have a bounty, they're fair game. I am a man without a faction.

I sympathies with you moBo, it's a pain in the behind when you grind away at a mission with those never ending USS checks in and out till you find what you are looking for.!
I had a completely different bug yesterday took on two imperial navy ascension missions to go after two wanted generals, I get the first one go back to the station and I become a Knight of the Empire, go out again dispose of the second one come back to the station click the finish button and hey presto I go down a rank back to squire.! 3 hours of grinding the USS for that. I still love the game though.

Yeah, my friend was also getting the same issue with the Orca that keeps turning up.

I will say to you what I said to him. Ticket it, provide as much info as possible and move on.
Only thing that can be done at this point.

Yip defo a pain in the butt! But it will not detract from my love for the game. I am an original '84 player, and *expected* new release bugs aside, I am having an absolute blast with the game. It is everything I had hoped for and more.
I have set myself up roleplay style in the guise of.. Who am I? Where am I? When am I? I was found floating in deep space, inside a cryonics chambers, by some passing traders ( Think Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Neutral Zone ) and dropped of at the Nearest Federation Star Port and handed over to the officials. Before being handed over to the Feds, one of the traders had took pity with my story and passed me a small piece of paper, written on it the address of a local businessman-trader who could possibly see his way to seeking me some sort of employment running local errands. I gratefully took up this offer and my new life set in the year 3300 began......
