Another Can't Connect Problem - Waiting for Connection

I haven't played for a while, but thought I'd have a go at Horizons tonight using an account that I haven't used for a while. Though later switched back to main account and have the same problem there. I don't use Steam.

Before switching accounts, I was able to download the updates for both Odyssey and Horizons. I then switched accounts, validated it with the emailed code and selectied "Continue" in the main menu. All options are whited out except "Training". The message at the bottom gives "waiting for connection" and continuously increasing fail count.

Server status is "OK" on the launcher
I tried logging out and on of my account and rebooting my PC.
I validated game files.
I checked game's network settings, but don't see anything wrong, and there are hardly any things I can change anyway.
I use an ethernet connection.
Nothing has changed on my PC since last time I played as I only use this PC for ED

Obviously, ethernet connection to my router is fine because I downloaded all the updates and validated the account.

Edit: I can log onto both acoounts and play on my laptop, but my laptop isn't powerful enough to play the game. It overheats after a short time. Therefore, it cannot be an account problem.

Please can anybody help?

There was a fella having a similar issue with odyssey over the weekend and advised him with support.

I won't pretend to know enough to give you any more advice, but there are some good eggs on here mate who can hopefully help out more.

I had a similar issue, but mine was due to linking my steam ED game account on steam with Forntier. Once I did that, and for some reason it took several tried, and a reboot all was good for me. Other than that, I have no idea friend and I hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks. I know there are a lot of potential Steam issues, but I don't use Steam.

I raised a support ticket yesterday, but now I can't find any record of it. Can somebody give me a step by step guide on how to get to "my support tickets"?

If it works on your laptop but not your gaming PC, that suggests the problem is with the gaming PC (firewall maybe?) rather than the game servers. Any issue with the game install should be sorted by validating game files as you've done.

The multi-account thing adds a little complexity that I'm not familiar with (I only have one account & only use it on one PC) and I suppose you might have been caught up in some draconian anti-cheat rule Frontier support might be able to identify & assist with.

Other than firewall settings the only other thing I can suggest is that perhaps some setting file is set to read only. Years ago I had an issue with an extra file in one of my user settings preventing the game from remembering some stuff (route plotting in my case), I think it probably came from copying beta files to the main install at some point (to speed up a patch download), something I no longer do.

If you don't care about your visited stars cache (or are clever enough to retain it) wiping & doing a fresh install should fix it but of course that's a hassle & you still won't know what broke.

Thanks, Riverside. I don't have any firewall other than whatever Win 10 does, but I have never touched anything in that, neither have I done any file management. I just play the game. The PC is very powerful and fairly new ( i9 3090). I bought it only to play ED Odyssey on, but I hated Odyssey and reverted to Horizons, which worked fine before my break. The break meant that the latest updates had to be installed. Unfortunately, I couldn't test before installing the updates because ED doesn't allow it.

Can anybody answer my question in post#6 on how to see my support ticket? How would I know that FD have answered my ticket? Everything was simple in the past, but now everything, including how to raise a ticket is hidden!

Where are community support managers? Can't they give some answers? Is there any way to tag them?

The mystery deepens. I can logon to and play Odyssey in my main account, but not Horizons or ED! That seems to eliminate problems with my PC and network.
Unfortunately, the account I want to play on only has Horizons.

Assuming you are talking about playing on your gaming PC that rules out firewall or other issues specific to the PC itself :)

Odyssey is a separate install to Horizons/base game, I understand it is possible to uninstall Horizons or remove the 'AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64' and Odyssey will still work.

If you haven't already try opening the launcher, highlight the Horizons option then validate game files with that option selected, it may be that you only did it for Odyssey before.

Thanks again for the help. When I'm logged onto the launcher in my alt account, there is no Odyssey. I only have that in my main account, so when I validate the game files, which I've dne 3 times, It can only be Horizons.

I raised another ticket today, and this time I have the auto email response and a number. I don't know what happened to the last one. The "submit" changed colour when I clicked it and I couldn't click it again, so I assumed it had been sent. I guess all I can do is wait for FD to do something. I'm pretty sure that the fault is on their side. It's like it doesn't recognise that I have authority to play ED and Horizons.

Tomorrow, I'll try to fix my previous gaming PC, which is more than good enough to play Horizons. I switched it off when I got my new one, then a month later, I tried to switch it on, and it was dead. I bought a new power supply for it. Now it switches on, but then immediately switches off. Maybe I connected something wrong because it has loads of weird wiring that I can't follow.
