Another list of things someone would like to see in the game

I’d say that most players take ED as just a game. As senior Elite 3 player, I take it as a bit more than a game. For me it is also a simulator of what one future variant might look like. And I really enjoy, when the gameplay gives me the feeling, that I really sit in a starship and travel across the galaxy. So I came up with a list of suggestions of what I’d like to see in the game

ARCHITECTURE
All stations look similar (with exeptions of outposts), there are only two main stations designs. I’d like to see much more and I’d like to see different stations design/architecture when I’m in the Empire or when I’m in the Federation or Alliance. Imagine jumping to a station and being able to say just by it’s look, that you are deep in Empire space. I can imagine some mixture of architecture on the borders of superpowers.

  • The Empire/Federation/Alliance wants to make complete reconstruction of a few of its stations and would like the players to come with the new design.
  • Players can than vote to level the number of designs to like 5
  • The winners will be decided in a series of CGs. Authors of winning design can get something special, for example a special edition of Imperial/Federal ship of his/her choice, having the station named by him, tickets to gamescon etc.

RADIO
Every car has a radio, my ship has nothing. Give me some radio, that can do things like mute music, tune to Elite 3 music, play things from my HDD. I can even imagine to have an ingame stations, maybe some people will be interested in speaking about news from Elite universe, taking calls from players in the game etc. There is also a question, if you should need some special module for tuning in when you’re 1000 ly or more from populated space.

MODULES
With engineers, the need has risen up for the ability to store enhanced modules.

  • Select a few stations with such ability to store modules.
  • Have a mission, that will enable the player to store one module.
  • Have a CG, 10 best commanders can receive as a reward the ability to store more modules, others get just credits.

GALAXY
All stations buy exploration data, but no player can acces them, filter through them etc. I’d like to see a place, where I can access all this vast exploration knowledge of humanity.

  • Jacques station (or a new station in Jacques bubble) is a perfect candidate for Depository of galactic exploration.
  • Have a CG for transportation of exploration data from the bubble to Jacques, or something similar, that would lead to creation of this at Jacques.
  • This interface, accessable only from Jacques, will show me the scope of the galaxy, I will be able to filter the galaxy by explored/unexplored, ELWs presence etc. I’m sure explorers will come up with more things to add.
  • Player will have to complete a mission for access (explore this system, 1000 ly away from here).

STATIONS VOICE
I very much like the human voice coming from the stations. Such job must be terribly boring, I’d like to hear much more bored, sleepy, tired humans, with accents, spicy language and attitude. Average Joe, that would very much like to tell me to just off, blonde in her first job, that barely learned the words and misspells my name, things like that. Keep the nice people on stations in hugely populated systems, but give me this kind to more remote systems.

That’s all I was able to come up with. Seemed a lot more, when I was pondering about it yesterday at the bath J I’d say the main theme is variety, which is what this game needs the most. Basic principles are great, the galaxy is superb, now it just needs some more variety.

The radio would be some super technology. Normal radio waves are too slow for Elite. It would be like hyperspace radio or something.

They have hyperspace radio in Star Trek. Besides, how does it that you can always instantly read all GalNet news, even if you're tens of thousands LY away from populated systems :) Surely it has to come to you somehow..

SCAVENGING
I'd like to see 'scavenging' become a profession. I think FDev missed a trick here when they introduced materials and crafting, especially with the recent adjustments they've made. What I would have liked to have seen are scavenger limpet controllers that would allow limpets to latch onto wrecks found in signal sources and extract useful components. Rather then yielding 3 materials at a time from ship debris, I would have added an RNG aspect meaning that finding 1 or 2 pieces would be more likely than 3; the real prize would be in scavenging higher quantities, perhaps 2-5 at a time, from the more intact derelicts.

In the aftermath of a war state in a system, derelict signal sources could be generated more often, gradually reducing in frequency over a period of time. This might encourage more unscrupulous pilots to follow in War's wake and pick through the bones of the fallen seeking a big score. The Alliance or an independent system might pay a scavenger handsomely to recover Imperial or Federation tech, and there may even be a market for second hand systems in the outer reaches of the bubble.

Lots of stuff we would like to see, the list could be a mile long.

Building on what we already got must be top priority.

Station design, settlements in different variations, more architecture related to Empire and Alliance, what we got more looks like Federation.

Radio communication, yes would like more of that, however what we got is pretty impressive already.
I actually heard some passenger announcements yesterday in a station, haven't heard that one before.

There are lots of things I would like to see, but most of it require legs :D

I was playing Adr1ft the other day, and I'm still impressed by how they made the EVA mechanics, and also all the details in the station.
Opening and closing the airlocks and so on.

I totally agree with the architecture point, wherever you go the same dam stations. The design of stations, inside and out lack any variety (inside, especially in the hanger) this has been brought up before many times, but alas no variation or changes.
I actually hope FD are very busy working on fixing gameplay with Engineers, because ED is getting mighty boring at the moment, no storage, interdictions, pimped up NPCs that blow you away in an instant etc etc......

100% in agreement about architecture, although you can defintely tell the difference between Imperial/Fed/Alliance stations. 3 types of starports in total (Ocellus/Orbis/Coriolis, then a bunch of variations of each station. The differences between the superpowers is subtle, station lighting differs, position of the signs on approach to the slot.

I like the way the X-series does it, vast differences in station designs. I guess the big difference is the X series has completely different species for each region of space, in ED the entire bubble is human.

All that being said, compare the Cutter & Corvette, both very unique designs. Surprising that the devs never created sleek looking stations for the Imperials.

Would be nice to drop out of warp to a station designed like this -

If you want radio, check out Radio Sidewinder. Also, there's a site called Inara that has multiple fan-made radio stations. i think one is actually done by NASA, called 3rd Rock. Enjoy!

Yes, need more station and base designs for each major power. Make them look different inside and outside. Players should be able to dock at big capital ships as well. They could be like mother-ships with station services far outside the bubble.

The system state should affect how stations appear as well.

I also think the game still needs a Codex with all the Elite lore and background information.

Nope.

My theory: Galnet is a series of USB thumb drives hot glued to every ships landing gear. When you land on a pad, a ground crew member plugs into the drive. Data from the last port you were at is downloaded and port news, events and comms from where you are is uploaded. You then carry that info to your next port of call. As there are millions of us pilot federation types, info gets around quickly. In networking, we refer to this as a "mesh".

We are Galnet.

You mean like whatever bandwidth Galnet/powerplay/wings/voice comms/text chat/BGS changes/CQC are transmitted on. The curiosity in Elite is not that information is transmitted across the galaxy instantaneously, but why some of it isn't. (commodity prices, outfitting options, shipyard choices).

OP, you have all that radio option. STEP 1: press Alt-Tab. STEP 2: open Youtube/Pandora/WMP/etc STEP 3: Play the music you want, at the volume you want.

Why on earth would FD build something into the game that can only slow the game process down when it can be done so much better already?

Architecture - after I read it here, I begin to notice some small differences between fed/ali/imp stations. What I basicly wanted to see are station designs unique to only one superpower, that is probably not coming as of yet, what is however coming (has been seen on gamescon) are different interior designs, that still come from the same basic design, but implement much more variety than what we have now. So thumbs up for that, I'd say that's a great start!

Radio - even thou I can listen to any music from any other source while in the game, I still feel, that having a radio in a ship would be great. As discussed in another thread here, radio could be a natural evolution of current comm panel, one function I'd really like to see is the ability to broadcast to all players in range. This could make this game much more a multiplayer.

4Shadragon: If this USB theory is true, how does it, that you can read newest Galnet posts when thousands LYs away from nearest station, after months of exploration? :)

Go onto elite dangerous youtube and watch the latest short vids on the channel (5min max). Shows whats coming in next update and has a lot of your wishes somewhat covered. Note we arnt seeing everything and thats a sneak preview, things may change between now and release.

Two or three multi-station instances that are heavily policed (very high-sec) with one of the new ship yard stations, a fancy regular station, and something else unusual.

Purpose:
To show-case the game and create social hubs where people can gather safely to chat, meet up, and get to know the game in a positive light.

Additionally the same thing, very low security or none at all.
