Another possibly bad idea

At the moment in the game, once you amass a lot of money you can drift around with your anaconda and hunt or explore.
So here is the idea, once you amass enough money you can schedule for a space station to be built, by determining the system and buying a specialty "beacon"(For lack of a better name).
Then over the next few weeks(IRL time) the station is built.
These "beacons" would come in several different varieties, which cost from 20 million credits(Such as a locked personal or public station with rearm and refuel) to 1 billion credits(Such as a large station with most amenities such as repair, rearm, refuel, contacts, etc.)

The station owner would then be able to control the station's economies by upgrading it with goods manufacturing and manipulating the station's allegiance.
The station owner would also have to restock fuel, ammunition, commodities, etc.)

rules would have to be in place to keep stations from becoming too clustered, drive people to the frontier(ha), encourage public stations, etc.

If anything like this is already planned then sorry for being unoriginal.

A starport would cost much much much much much more than 1 billion credits. Powerplay will let large groups of people build stations after having a vote.

Don't worry - you're not the first to have this bad idea.

This is not the resource management and empire building game that you're looking for.

Bad, or good idea, I am not sure. The thing is that this has been proposed so many times in so many different ways, that we all lost track of it.

And the answer always has been, and still is: NO PLAYER OWNED STATIONS.

Sorry. That's the net of it.

End of Thread. This is ready for merge or close.

People keep saying that, but the problem is that this guy doesn't seem to agree with you (21:24 mark in the video):

And in case you are wondering about his references to the Edge magazine:

oh how about, instead of being a station owner, you're just a station creator?

1. buy a super expensive module, one which can only be fit to an anaconda or T9.
2. go to the system you want to create the station in and use the module.
3. ALL of your assets, everything you own in the galaxy, get removed.
4. your cmdr name and account get locked out. 'retired', if you will.
5. the new station gets your old cmdr name prefixed to "hub", "city", "station", "platform", etc
6. you get a new account with 1000 credits and a sidewinder.

now how's THAT for something to work towards? :)

I actually really like this idea, but I'm a bit concerned about too many people doing it.

I'm envisioning stations everywhere. Just... Everywhere.

That said, I'm sure there's some way to keep things reasonable. I like the idea.

Although, I do really think that this game would be dead without a player owned stations, player owned economy, etc., I think this video was made over a year ago and I am pretty sure A LOT of the ideas have changed since then. I hope that he really does implement a player owned station concept in this game, or else there is realllly nothing else to look forward to.

Hey guys, I am all down for player owned stuff in the galaxy....but really, they have said "no,no way" so many times...I even think I have read it several times from the FDEVs and moderators...that interview hasnt been circled enough!

Nice idea but they cant do it for the same reason players will never name planets, we cant be trusted to pick acceptable names.

Those are always in reference to the CURRENT kinds of stations - bigass cities and whatnot. Even the outposts we have are FAR bigger and more expensive than any player should be able to have...

...but the Rock Hermits? Personal stations? That's doable. It should be (and no doubt will be) bloody expensive, but doable, and won't turn the game into the feared "resource management and empire building game" in any way.

  • Mining drones was talked about in the design proposals 1,5 years ago...and yet they will come in 1.3.
  • The wing mechanics was described in the DDF (at that time called "Alliances") 2 years ago...yet they came in 1.2.
  • Heck...Elite 4 itself was talked about 15 years ago...and yet here it is!

I think it is much safer to assume that the things they've talked about is still "on the list" UNLESS they have told us specifically that isn't the case anymore regarding some feature.

Nothing else to look forward to? I can think of many many other things to look forward to! :D

What they have talked about is that player controlled "empire building" with corporations isn't the core of the game and IF these things is going to be implemented they will never be to the level we can see in games like EVE, nor are they a priority so we should expect them for quite some time. You might be able to own a "mini station" somewhere though, but the idea is still that you are "Han Solo" rather than some big shot CEO for a mega corporation. ;)

its not my opinion lol bcause the devs do what they want, but i'd hoped this game be closer to elite frontier , unfortunately its not even close

a smaller asteroid base or outpost would be nice to have for a small group of players not a massive mega station like the ones that are owned by NPC's atm,

Start with essentualy a small shell and a landing pad to drop off resources to upgrade and add some basic services and have something like a small pool of tradable comoditys later on down the line and pick an econamy specialisation for it and have a small tax rate for it.

Thank you for the replies and I quite like all these rock hermit ideas,
If this is not to be, then it will not be, but it would be very nice with some rules to it,
like they have to be 300LY from the nav beacon,
and cannot be closer than 100LY to another station.
