Another solution to the piracy problem; Co-operative group play?

As a wealthy trader, sometime bounty hunter and part-time mercenary, I find I need something more from Elite Dangerous.

I would like to try playing a criminal pirate for a change. So I have decided to set up a second account, which by all accounts should not have to cost me another copy of the game, given the amount of real money I have invested in this game so far, in order not to ruin the clean reputation of my trader character, and to have better fun.

Anyway cut a long story short, how to pirate? How do I intend to go about this messy business?

Group mode, arranged sessions, and honor between pirates?!

If playing as team groups, we would have to be friends in the first place, the pirates agree to play pirates, and the defending team, naturally have to defend their freighter, in order to secure their cut of the trade profit, (That's another problem, percentage pay for defensive wingmen should be agreed in advance, not paid out willy nilly not even as a cut, but money for nothing as is the current broken system), then roles can be reversed, and teams get the opposite experience, sad as it is, arranged games is the only viable solution.

The reason piracy play does not work in open play mode is because most people, for me now mainly due to the network lag in supercruise where heavy trading is taking place, such as trade CGs, play in solo mode for trading, and clearly, no pirate problem there.

This is why the only viable option for us is to play in group mode, and arrange these things in advance. sad as it is, this is the only way you can guarantee you get to pirate the team you wanted to pirate, not just some random defenseless T7 that doesn't want to be pirated, due to the nature of the networking limitations, which are beyond the developers control.

It will not be easy. Not only do both teams have to arrange a time and a place, but both teams will need to be properly trained in advance with tactics of defense and attack, without destroying the expensive freighter, for what pirate destroys his lifeblood? Also. if I do this, I don't want my Python blown up, and neither will the three defending Vipers, which are merely meant as a courtesy measure, and will soon be intercepting your ships within 30 seconds.

So, when playing the pirate team, clearly your main goals are to bring down the shields of the freighter, if it has them, limpet the cargo hatch whilst fighting off the defending wing, then, if successful, picking up as much of the booty as possible whilst fighting off any police ships that pick up on your signal and decide to turn up to investigate.

At least, in my mind, this is how I imagine it would/could/should happen.

At the moment, as far as I can tell, piracy is not working. Neither for the pirates, nor the pirated. And still a lot of things are yet to be fixed, or refined, as us, the players find better ways to play, and the developers make the appropriate adjustments accordingly.

The biggest problem right now with piracy is finding players to pirate. The majority of traders trade in solo without repercussions or risk to their wealth generation. Piracy can be quite dull and boring for long periods of time filled with a few minutes of thrilling adrenaline rush. The second problem is you make very little money (250k/cr/hr on average) unlike traders who make 2 - 12 million an hour.

Buff NPCs so they carry something worthwhile is a start.

But NPCs are boring. Humans are so much more fun and interesting to pirate. Their cunning and wit is what makes it so fun.

The problem is that you pirates are lazy by nature. I've traded entirely in Open, never once been in private or solo. You guys don't go out hunting though, you sit in populated systems and prey upon the weak. You don't "know" that "most" traders play in solo or open, or private or otherwise. You ASSume this is the case. When in truth, traders are simply smarter than pilots. We find better profits in less populated systems.

One of my favorite things about this game is that you can't make a second "character" to go out and be a complete jerk with no repercussions.

Try living as a pirate for a while with it your only sole form of income. While you can insult us for being "dumb" and staying in populated systems, it is a simple law of numbers. A pirate barely makes money as it is (~250k/cr an hour on a good night!)--how on Earth will they make money drifting around unpopulated systems trying to find traders who easily make 6 - 12 million an hour?

Do you see the lunacy of what you said now?

Even if we found you, we're still limited by our hold and we have that one single opportunity to profit. We aren't going to ask you for all you carry. We'll ask for a portion. In my case, no more than 32 tons in my Cobra. It just isn't feasible to drift around and "hope" I'll find someone. There's too many systems!

We're far from lazy. We work our ever loving butts off for very little money while traders sit around watching Netflix as they go back and forth all night long.

Sorry but if anything the traders are lazier.

The amount of procedures a pirate goes through to pirate is the most complex task currently in game with respect to credit earning. Think plotting a trade route is hard? Try finding players in numerous trade routes, sit in front of the sun for hours in numerous systems, having traders run away from you, having to shoot out running trader's drives without destroying the said ship, etc...

We are suppose to prey on the weak, since we are not out there to find some worthy opponent that we fight to the death. It's money or nothing for us, we don't subscribe to the kind of morals traders and bounty hunters do.
