Anticlimax

Does anyone else worry that they may have hyped themselves into a state whereby E: D cannot possibly deliver, even if it is fantabulosa?

I think I may find myself guilty as charged.

Possibly. But, as with SC, the journey is a lot of fun anyway. I've gotten my money's worth out of both already I think.

Certainly I've been burned before on games that I thought would rock (Master of Orion 3 is up there), but I can't help but be optimistic!

Not for me, at least I don't think so. The main consideration for me is the fun factor,is just playing going to be fun. If I have to try hard to find things to do or find interesting, then it will be less fun. I'm expecting a complex but not complicated game that will be fairly easy to slip in to and learn as you play. I never really played Frontier or First Encounters, due to being in forin places at the time, so for me this is really Elite 2.

My only real real concern is network issues and the whole P2P thing. I imagine it will work in that as far as our computers are concerned we are playing a solo online game that just so happens to have other players in it.. so that if and when people drop off nothing bad happens to the network. Others have mentioned packet or package security, beyond me but still is there a risk? Or is it going to be possible to hack the game locally and effectively cheat?

There you have it, as long as the game play isn't broken I'm good. Aslong as the networking works and there can't be any cheaters I'm H.A.P.P.Y.

It really depends. It was my thought for last year till release of video. Now I really don't know. I have a dream about ED, sure, but I kinda have no problem if released game it will be just a half, or quarter fulfillment of the dream. Maybe because basic premise of openness of the world, of free will, of free flight is so good, everything else is just nice bonus.

@Oss: neither... I had a pretty good idea of what I'd pledged towards, and nothing I've seen in the last ten months has changed my opinion. The game will be what it will be - if it grabs me (which I suspect it will), it'll be like Elite all over again!

I actually went back and watched all the kickstarter dev videos the other day and found myself even more excited about ED than before. David talks about a lot of stuff around the evolving galaxy and plans for the future that it's impossible not to get swept up in it all. I would say the hype around ED is nothing compared to that around Star Citizen in fact ED is distinctly understated.

I'm not saying I am not optimistic. I am saying that that very optimism may be my downfall. Again.

Your possibilities:

Be optimistic now. ED rocks. Double happy.
Be optimistic now. ED sucks. Single happy.
Be pessimistic now. ED rocks. Single happy.
Be pessimistic now. ED sucks. Double sad.

I say be happy today, for tomorrow we die.

Unless you're saying that the very fact that you are being optimistic will result in a diminished experience later on... Possible, I suppose. Temper your enthusiasm with the knowledge that ED is just a game. We all have our idea in our heads right now about what ED is. None of us is right. You need to be all zen about this.... accept ED for what it turns out to be, not what you want it to be. :D

Yes agreed but...

Yes, this is what I am suggesting I will do (have before) and was wondering if anyone does this too.

I love you E: D. I will put you on this pedestal and gaze upon your greatness with overwhelming awe.

Oh, you're just a game. Rats. I am just whelmed, then.

This game will be amazing. This is David Braben we are talking about not Peter Molyneux the arch lord of over-promising. I fully believe David will back up all the talk with a game that we are all going to love (well most of us anyway, there are some folk who will never be happy!). Look at Frontiers track record, look at the care and attention going into every last detail. This will be great, how great is the question. I'm putting all my faith into "legendary", if it's not I have an ample supply of pitchforks and torches.....anyone got any matches??? ;)
