I'm a relatively new (Epic Games promotion) player to the game and this is the first post I write on this forum so please bear with me.
I've read and listened to so much Elite stuff (thanks Drew Wagar!) and can barely understand the community and history behind this game but I try my best and can see how important this is for the game and industry in general. I can see it's much more than a video game to the community and I respect and admire that. I don't know why I'm writing this so let me get to the point.
I love Horizons even with all its faults. That said, it feels like Odyssey is taking the "soul" out of the game and knowing a bit how the game industry works I'm fairly certain the soul is not coming back even if the major issues are fixed. For now, this means the game is dead to me. It's a shotgun blast to the face of the amazing community and developers who have poured their heart into the game. This is why I've stopped playing Horizons and don't plan on going back unless we can have some confirmation that either:
1) Horizons will stay a seperate game as-is or with seperate updates not related to Odyssey
2) It will only be integrated to Odyssey when the community at large agrees it's good enough.
I'm actually surprised I haven't heard of Elite before - it immediately became my favourite game after a few hours of playing around. I can only imagine how disappointed the old timers are with the direction although they probably are not as surprised by questionable choices from FDev as I am. I would be happy to keep playing Horizons but I don't because I'm waiting for it's death with the integration. So well played FDev, the DLC has stopped me from playing the base game (and not even due to technical problems).
So, TL;DR: Could FDev give us some reassurance that the integration won't happen before the community strongly agrees it should (Kickstarter backers, old timers, the people who helped make this game a reality)? This is the least you owe to these people giving their free time and building the game with you purely out of love for the project and vision. Please have an open discussion about this with the community, you lose nothing and can only gain some of the respect back you've just lost.
