Any cmdrs left a ship in deep space for months?

Going on a business trip tomorrow, will be away for 8 weeks or more, my ship is 2000LY from the core. Have read some horror stories about explorers coming back to a destroyed ship.

Am parked well away from any asteroid fields or planet's. Has anyone been away for months while the ship was in deep space? Would like to minimize the risk of losing my ship and exploration data.

I never left it for that length of time but I had no problems leaving it for 3 or four days well away from any planets/rings etc.

Unless you're going to leave yourself logged in all that time, it shouldn't be a problem. I've logged out near a station in a busy system and not logged back in for over a month and nothing whatsoever happened to it because your ship vanishes when you log out.

Just don't log out inside of an asteroid field, otherwise you should be fine.
Longest I left my ship out there was... 2 weeks or so, I think.
If you feel extra paranoid, get away from all orbits and bodys (vertical up on the system plane), drop from SC, wait till standstill and then log out.
Shouldn't make a difference though. Just make sure to avoid asteroids and rings...

By the way, parking next to a (ringless) planet should be fine too. Once you enter a certain distance from a stellar body, you will be in his sphere of influence, so you will travel with it around the star (bottom left in the hud shows your current reference system/influence sphere). At least that was what I think I observed. Again, no data from FD = guesswork, guesswork, guesswork.

Maybe the whole galaxy will have moved on, and you'll be stuck nowhere when you come back.

There seems to be some evidence from forum reports that there's risk from universe movement (or arguably bugs) if you park in an instance, like a RES or CZ. But I often park in open space,remote or near planets. Never once died while logged off - you're looked after while away and returned in a safe place, sometimes xxxk ls away but safe

Months not, but weeks yes. I've got another account I use mainly for exploring. Sometimes I play with it for days in a row, sometimes weeks go by without me using it. And every time I load it up, my old faithful Cobra is there where I left it :)
Indeed, park it well away from anything, and you should be fine.

I'm out exploring right now and when I log off I always fly at least 1,000ls away from any bodies, drop out of supercruise and wait until my ship comes to a total standstill before logging out. Never had any problems.
