General / Off-Topic Any drone pilots out there?

So I've decided to take up a new hobby, flying drones.
However I will not just get any drone, I want a good one.

Been searching da interweb, and so far only DJI Drones seams to be any good.

But before I fork out +1000USD I need to know from people who actually fly these things.

I want to use it for photographing, some pathfinding eye in the sky gadget when I'm tracking, it need to be kind of weather resistant, and easy to get spare parts in most parts of the world.

I am a drone pilot. I only fly racing drones though so i can't help you using my own experiences but maybe the DJI Mavic Pro is the drone for you. I have been reading good things about it.

I fly an Eachine Falcon 250 pro and a Chaser 88. Both are racing drones.

yeah the racer drones are a different beast altogether. I've been checking out the Mavic, but I also read that it got numerous issues with the quality? however I like that you can fold it and store it in your backpack. I also like that you can use a "VR" headset with it.

Yeah you can use it with FPV (First Person View) goggles. I also fly using FPV, very cool.
Although the DJI Mavic Pro is also sold as a racer it is much more than that. In my opinion it is more a camera drone than anything else.
Dont know about the quality but in every review i have seen so far it is pretty much praised.

I think that for the requirements you have, this is the best drone atm. I am no expert though so i would recommend asking around on a drone forum.

YEah will do that, thanks for the input [up]

I am flying a Yuneec Q500 4k drone. VERY stable, great shots. Not a speed demon by any stretch (Unless you disable the GPS lock, NOT RECOMMENDED unless you have prior non gps flight experience) but it does make a competent aerial platform. While I REALLY wish Yuneec would update the firmware to allow autonomous flight, (programmable waypoint missions) I find it to be a good value. The Q500 can be found on ebay for about $450 or so....

What is the range you can fly with the drone, I checked the Mavic and it can do around 4-5 KM and 7KM on pre-programmed flights.

I am strictly a LOS (Line Of Sight) flyer. I have always viewed the Q500 (And any drone I have flown over the past 5 years) as a flying brick with spinning knives. So I ALWAYS want to maintain a visual "lock" on it while flying.

That being said the Q500 is stated to have a range of 1 kilometer. Frankly I have trouble with visually gauging orientation of the craft once it is beyond 500 feet so I have limited myself to that number. Now IF the drone had programmed flight ability (as well as a redundant system for control) I would venture out further.

Ok i've decided to get the Mavic as it's small and easy to get into your backpack when hiking around in the wilderness :D

I ordered the backpack for 4 batteries, controller, main unit and some spareparts for the drone. So now I'm just waiting for all of it to arrive at my doorstep. Unfortunately there is a waiting list for some of the items as they are listed as backorder items :( still can't wait to check it out.
