Any fix for the Entering Hyperspace Lag????

Pretty sure this is a common question BUT - Does everyone experience the Entering Hyperspace Lag?
Is it a Game problem or a PC Spec problem?

I love the game so far. Played the original back in the day. The sense of scale is astonishing. Im slowly trading rares
and im upto 20mil now. I wanna try everything at some point, exploring, pp, mining, pirate etc!

The only thing spoiling it abit for me is this HyperSpace Lag.

Cheers

PS - I heard of player owned stations - is this possible? ie - can i find a quiet corner and build my own bit of space heaven?

What do you mean by Entering Hyperspace lag? I have never experienced anything I would describe as that, so it is hard to understand if this is a game problem, a PC spec problem or a user problem.

There is a period of time when your hyperspace drive spools up, sucking all the energy it needs to do the jump. That is not a lag but a deliberate piece of game design. If jumping was instant, there could never be any combat other than when both sides wanted it, since players would just escape.

Then there is a period of time when you are 'in the tunnel'. There is a need for some form of transition as you are changing the travel mode. The three forms of travel are very different, you cannot change seamlessly. During this time 'in the tunnel' your PC client is doing all the handshaking it needs to do with other players (if any) in the destination system instance you are going to join. Given the networking design, this has to happen somewhere.

Then you arrive with the rapid slowing down to show the change of travel mode again.

You cannot do it now. FD have always said it is not appropriate for the game they want to build. But as they change direction from the vision given during the kickstarter, they are attracting an audience that wants more and more traditional MMO capabilities. They may well 'change their minds' in the future. Sadly.

If you mean those few moments just after the jump starts that fps tanks and head tracking or rift immersion gets destroyed as the game becomes a stuttery mess then I'd like to know too, it has always been there and just like every other game I have every played those moments of heavy disk access always cause stuttering. I've never seen a machine that doesn't do it.

Yeah thats the one - the spooling is smooth as silk - its the first few seconds of entering the FAST TUNEL BIT - i know its shifting alot of graphics but it kinda
rreminds me im playing a game and destroys some of the emersion. oh well, maybe a pc upgrade might help!! peace

You mean like this (starting at around 04:20)?:

This link jumps directly to the right time: https://youtu.be/jCIloJa2vS4?t=261

This is one of FD's own videos, so it's safe to say it's a game problem not a PC problem.

I have watched A LOT of ED videos - maybe two of them did not have this hitch.

Given the numbers of users that report stalls/hitching/stuttering/lag/FPS drops, I would say that if this is the only place you experience it, count yourself lucky :)

Yeah I'd like to see if there's a fix too, it really breaks emersion. Also when entering/exiting supercruise the game always pauses for a few seconds, I really wish I could just press "C" and I would be dropped out/in, that would do wonders for emersion.

I have had this and although I'd tried it in the past I recently reset my Graphics Quality to the lowest preset and it all went away.
.
I then went to the medium preset and it was still good for the hyperspace tunnel stutter.
.
The high preset then re-introduced the hyperspace tunnel stutter.
.
I then went back to the medium preset and compared the high preset with it to see what I could do to up the display quality yet not introduce the stutter.
.
From the medium preset I set Bloom to Medium, Anti-Aliasing to SMAA, and FX Quality to Medium and Galaxy Map Quality to Medium.
The Model Draw Distance I set to the same as the High preset - about 75%.
This gave me good enough display quality with only a little bit of hyperspace tunnel stutter, which I can live with.
Space stations also used to stutter or jump but they are smooth now.
.
This is on a first gen i5 with a GTX660 so different specs will obviously need different tweaks, it's worth a shot.
