How does this work with lore, btw? Are the forums time synced to the game, in reverse?
I do wish ED had stuck with it's original design where only ships go FTL. Communications were restricted by C, and that's why there are data delivery missions to this day (galactic snail mail). It has dawned on me that out-of-band comms break this, things like requesting help from a fuel rat or posting "live" images from Sag A on Twitter to be seen by CMDRs in the Bubble. Maybe this is why Frontier gave in to in-game instant comms and telepresence multicrew...
Since instant comms are part the game now, I wish they would go all the way and update the game accordingly. Data delivery missions seem pointless now, though one might argue that only wealthy tech-based systems have access to FTL comms. Having to hand in exploration data manually is also a throwback to the early days of no FTL comms.
I sometimes think Frontier has decided to throw lore under the bus for the sake of gameplay gimmickry. I've listened to Sandro try to rationalize some game elements, and it sounded much more magical than rational. He would make a good press secretary for Donald Trump, LOL
