Any good reason to get back into Elite?

I know there's been major changes to mining and exploring, and the addition of squadrons, but I'm used to playing solo as a trader/passenger liner, with occasional PvE bounty hunting, so will I find anything new to sink my teeth into after a long hiatus, or should I wait for the next big content drop?

The graphics are significantly different though not to everyones taste.
All those systems in the bubble which previously could not be first discovered now suddenly are.. go put your name on something! (i wonder if this is just a bug.. lol).
The beluga and orca have the passenger optional restrictions removed, and at least for the beluga actually makes the ship playable now.
There are 2 new ships that aren't that interesting to me at least but are 2 new ships anyway. The cockpit on the mamba is very nice, and the boost noise is so aggressive :)

Tbh, not really. Which isn't to say ED isn't worth playing.

Just if you really did or didn't enjoy it before, the new update imo doesn't change that overall state of being. It's nerfed some, optimized others depending on your preferences. Bit more overall positive, bit more overall negative, whatever point of view you're either still overall playing the game and/or rotating it among other play time -

Or still thinking it's not really worth playing because the essence of the game hasn't really changed. That's good for some people, not so good for others.

Me? I got lot better mining, and entirely detestable exploration. Just happy already Elite on exploration as FSS is mini-game I want to avoid as much as possible.

So am really happy with the new update re: mining even with some gripes on giving up so many hardpoints you don't really have truly armed miners if you go all in on full mining config. But fair enough, mining = happy for me.

But trade off was exploration, for my preferences, totally sucks now. Detestable mini-game I refuse to do except of course I have to for certain extent (for mining - ring identification). Overall that means I keep playing ED, but like I said - that decision was already there before the update. ED wasn't great, for me - probably never will be given the essence of chasing timesink for sake of timesink that FDev seems to love - but it's reasonable entertainment and a rotation on games played.

I seriously doubt if you were really put off with ED, this update will change that. And if you really liked ED, then this update doesn't change that either. It's just one small nudge in either direction.

Been asking myself the same question. I thought I would enjoy exploring some with the new system. Having tried it out for a bit in the beta, I don't think I'll be doing any exploring. Yikes

Never liked mining, and don't see any compelling reason to try it now.

Everything else appears to be for multiplayer. Which is a big don't care for me as I play (or used to) solo.

I 'think' I can still bounty hunt as before, so there is that.

Even if you don't enjoy mining or exploration there are still the new scenarios. And if you didn't play Beyond at all yet there are also new trading tools and lots of other stuff.

No massive changes in trade/passenger or combat this time round. Though massacre missions are a bit nicer now (and work...) if you want a bit more context for your bounty hunting. CZs have been changed quite a bit if you want that sort of high-end stuff.

It's possible that the new multiple-states model will have some interesting side-effects on trading and where the best profit opportunities are, but it's far too early to tell.
