Any HEAVY ROLEPLAY SQUADRONS out there already?

Hi there fellow Commanders,

Since we had a hugely successfull launch of 3.3, which includes rich and proper classic MMO standarised tools to run and maintain guilds..., ehm..., squadrons, I'm expecting to see many specialized squadrons out there (eg. PvP/PvE focused, trading/mining/exploration heavy focused etc.) pretty soon (TM).

Since I was myself a grandmaster of a roleplay guild with ca. 300 members in Star Wars The Old Republic MMO back in the days, I can clearly see how the new & purely awesome squadrons managing tools will ease the roleplaying in our galaxy.

No time for me this days to run a guild..., ehm..., squadron of any sort, as it consumes massive effort of plenty of people (guild leader + guild officers), for to keep the healthy and fun guild up and running. *

...so I'd like to find one, worth joining. That's why asking fellow Commanders this:

ANY HEAVY ROLEPLAY FOCUSED SQUADRONS OUT THERE ALREADY? :D

For those of you interested what heavy roleplay is, the short answear is: while in-game you're always in-character. A bit longer answer would be watching this example of heavy roleplay gameplay from Arma III:

*) On a sidenote: most of you Commander have probably no idea what I'm talking about, when it comes to massive effort in runing and managing the guild/squadron, so please..., pretty please with cherry on top - as a bit of an advice from an MMO veteran - try to find a proper squadron for yourself first, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before you'll come up with the idea to set up one yourself. Non MMO game out there needs thousands and thousands of dead guilds, that died after 3 months. I've seen so many of them already. It's just not worth your time and effort if you won't really dedicate yourself into the work. Plus, without a pack of great friends to help you out running all the details (eg. website, guild forums, recruiting, live events etc.) it's just impossible and will become a frustrating journey for you.

Havent seen any ..

Id like to join one too but there would be obvious problems.

You kind of need an rp server dedicated to rp..otherwise you have a wing of guys "in character" within a universe of players who are not...

It would work for private groups i guess..but that would be too boring for me personally (unless it was massive and allowed different squads withn it that competed.)

We need something like Mobious - but for Role play -and allows pvp.

Actually..if you wanted to start a grouplike that..id be down. We could have our own faction wars and everything.

I dissagree mate. Cool RP event is not the one where there are 100 ppl shouting at each other;)

Great RP fun could be just 3-4 of you landing on some abandomed outpost unrevealing it's mysteries together. Talking to each other all the time. Or assulting a ground base in-character. It all can be a part of some large RP campain set up with goals and milestones by guild officers. Look at the video. Those guys had a great fun out of few cars and a street barrier! :D

And it's all there already my friend - the whole game's world is already in-character! ;) There are just many Commanders which aren't, but you obviously don't need to RP with them.

Besides after a while a cross-squadrons live RP events will also become a common thing.

Are you talking about playing in open?

Because ive been interdicted by gankers 5 times already today...all shouting abuse..calling me a noob (because they couldnt kill me)

Im just saying - hard to RP,and be immersed in that environment.

You need a dedicated rp server or private group...

Open is not suited to RP..thats why no one does it....

Rpin is all well and good..but when youre staring down a 30 million credit rebuy because some clown wants to kill you "just coz" youd be surpprised how quickly all that RP will take a back seat. .

I love playing in the Arms 3 77th (?) JSOC co-op server. Quite RP. But relaxed enough you can still have a laugh.

It's quite easy to RP on there.
But RPing in a spaceship? It's more or less all made up, so I'd not know where to begin!

Co-op PvE roleplay makes sense, however PvP roleplay generally doesn't work in my experience.

In many ways you could say the Code is the original RP group. They also use a Private group. It's called Open and everyone is welcome.

As for other RP groups try contacting Lorens Legion.

You might also want to look up the Pleaides Concordat

Or pretty much anyone on Inara

No, you're right. For heavy RP "open" mode might become the immersion killer. After all I'm not talking about role-playing with some random ppl. As sweet as it sounds most of the times it's just not good enough. Great RP needs a proper and skillfull RP-ers around, your guildies. Plus, with your buddies on mics with you it's also fun to RP with NPC's, ATC etc.

Thank you for the hints Commander!

This what worries me though:

(...) the Code is the original RP group (...) and everyone is welcome.

I know it was hard before squadrons to keep ppl together and tight, that's why the open policy. But I'm sure in short time many of the professionally focused guilds/squadrons out there will be having some sort of application evaluation process.

In my former SWTOR guild the officers were carrying out RP in-character interviews with the applicants and putting the applicants under the guild's grand council's voting afterwards. It was a great fun for the officers (who usually had plenty on their heads with managing their parts of the guild) as for the applicant as well, to get to know guild's leaders in person for the 1st time, watching how the RP folds within our guild.

Also, ^ this is heavy RP guild by my standards! :)

Greetings Commander,

As far as I know there is no full-time RP squadrons out there yet. However there is a few RP squadrons. What they do to fulfill that RP I am not to sure. I'd get you their names, but currently on my phone. Of the top of my head Preasidioum Imperia as I recall started off with RP chats. There is an EDRPG discord group as well, that is basically the more organized of the RP squadrons. Currently Garuda Ved is a new squadron that will be RP focused, but running off of the Starfinder gaming system. We are working on getting background story settled, and structure set up before we advance to our heavy advertisement phase. But... Yah there is quite a few RPers around.

The Invade and Annex things are wuite the best MilSim Servers around yet - not too hard to play.

Exactly this. Everyone being welcome sounds fair and nice and all that..but its actually not a good system if you want a heavy RP group. As you said, there was an application process for all the game i rped, and peopleg got rejected all the time. Sounds harsh but it ensured the group only was made up of people who were interested in genuine RP. All you got to do is look at the average ED player and see this is simply not the case.

Ill keep an eye on this thread. Good luck commander.

Greetings Commander,

I'm sure many of RP-ers will start to step away from the shadows of the void now, as they (we) finally have ways and tools to organise themselves.

I'm intrigued especially by the GARUDA VED squadron mentioned in your reply. Found this so far: https://inara.cz/squadron/4226/

But nothing there on this "Starfinder gaming system" you've mentioned. Can you be so nice and elaborate on this system?

Thank you!!

Hello CMDRS...

The PC squadron Phobetor's Hypothesis is probably the closest thing to a heavy RP group in Elite Dangerous. I come from that background myself in STO and GW2 and I've been trying to create that in Elite Dangerous ever since. You can use my solo-roleplay blog in my signature as a sample if you are interested... Our group is currently in the middle of a shift in a new direction and as such several details of the new situation have not been finalized, also, we had a number of people leave recently because they felt that there was too much emphasis on RP so in some ways we are kind of rebuilding at the moment. Anyways, if anyone here is interested I would be delighted for you to stop by and come see the server. We're at a point right now where if you are savy enough with RP you can help to decide the future direction that the group takes and maybe together we can finally put together a sizeable RP group here in the game :)

PM me for a link to the discord or alternatively you can DM there directly--my discord tag is kitty#3223

P.S. can someone point me in the direction of the EDRPG discord server? It seems like I should go and check that out, might find like-minded people.

Your RP personal blog is great! I've seen some of those in-character blogs in my SWTOR days but only among the most dedicated and pro RP players! This is exactly what kind of players I'm looking for!!! :)

You probably don't have any forum/website to join yet, do you? From my own experience it helps a lot the guild to grow and discuss various ideas among officers and dedicated guildies...

For not to be indebted - this a an old graphic of mine, we kept on our guild's website as a splash-welcome-page for non registered forum users, for to tease them about our guild's RP lore and what they can expect when joining the guild:

Funnily enough I have to agree. Everytime [...] most people automatically assume you're out to kill them or spoil their fun, which is both sad and hillarious.

Bottom line: most people don't get the idea of roleplaying unfortunately. If everyone did, Elite would be the most amazing game [...]

EDIT: but then again you set example by action - so perhaps if you allow your interactions with others to get them accustomed to the idea without automatic connotation of ganking, they'll spread more of the same. I'm talking Open mode, naturally.

Yeah... I think possibly the new system-wide chat will be useful in this regard.
Being able to convey a role via the chat, system-wide, should make it so people have an idea of the play involved if/when you eventually encounter them. Might be a time saver as well (less individual messages), I expect.

I just make it up as I go. Don't know much about the lore in ED and one day I hope to read all about it. The only record of what I do is in my logbook/diary on Inara. I'd be happy to join up with a RP outfit that plays in a private group and stay in character. Not into the arms race in open.

Funnily enough I have to agree. Everytime I tried something 'in a role' by approaching another commander and asking his business or destination, I'd usually get no reply or them quickly leaving in panic.

Bottom line: most people don't get the idea of roleplaying unfortunately. If everyone did, Elite would be the most amazing game instead of a boring mess it is, because the game world and wealth of experiences would be created by players themselves between each other. Without which factor the game hardly holds its ground as its AI npcs interactions, missions and repetitive structure is rudimentary at best.

EDIT: but then again you set example by action - so perhaps if you allow your interactions with others to get them accustomed to the idea without automatic connotation of ganking, they'll spread more of the same. I'm talking Open mode, naturally.

I've been trying to RP with random Commanders as well. 2/10 cases were pretty awesome, the rest was exactly how you're describing.

But you're leaving behind the fact that a huuuge revolution came down to Elite Dangerous with 3.3! We are talking a true MMO guilds in our galaxy now!!! Well, not exactly now, as it'll take some time for the players to find like-minded people and organize themselves via the new in-game tools, but it's obviously coming. I'm expecting the community's interaction in-game to flourish now!

And guess it's also normal we shouldn't expect a proper RP with a random player, while he grinds his credits or engineering materials. But with the guilds/squadrons now it'll be way easier to find those you would like and will properly RP! :)
