Any idea on player numbers ?

Would be interested to know how many are in-game; backers and new players who bought in on release day ?

If Wings is coming we should see more groupings of players which will be a really nice touch for incoming players to see a vibrant Galaxy.

"Lots", being the rough estimate. Player numbers are something a whole lot of games companies (except Blizzard and Sq.Enix and such big hitters) don't tell, at least not directly.

Number of backers should be fairly easy to estimate from the number of goals/ levels/ stretch targets in the Kickstarter campaign. From there I'd expect an uplift after launch too.

I'd be curious especially given how the universe has been instanced and how Wings would work with larger numbers.

Wings will bring a lot more players.
I just hope new missions and fixes come with it, or it will be like painting over rust with raw egg.

Sandro (lead designer) has said that Wings will probably be small at first, like 3 or 4 players.

As with everything else in the game, it's dependent on P2P connection quality; how many other player computers your own computer can form a solid connection with. Wing integrity will probably be prioritized over everything else, so the number of other players a Wing could possibly see will be limited by the player in the Wing with the weakest P2P connections. That's going to keep the size of Wings small for a while, I imagine.

I can count them on both my fingers and my toes.
