any idea what happend Cmdr's

I had a strange experience last night, I had to kill the game due to this. if it was fair I would have let my ship blow apart.
I'm on a massacre mission to kill (not sure what they were called) you know the ones who shout out, we need to leave/stand and fight etc.
I am in my battle python and I interdict a sidey. I know I'm a bully ;)
I attack him as I am approaching. we get so close together we are touching. we are like this for about 2secs, then my shields suddenly dropped to zero from 3 full bars, my canopy cracked open, good job I had my helmet on, oxygen depletion went down fast as well. I have 25min supply. :)
my hull then decides to drop to 50% in less that a second and I had enough time to CL out. I saw it hit 10% before I could pull the plug. when I restarted the game I had 100%hull, full shields, full canopy.
anyone else experienced something like this.
was it the fact that we were touching when this happened.
sorry no pics or recording :(

If it was with a real CMDR you probably would have been roasted for combat logging :p . Stuff it though, NPCs don't play by the rules so I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you had a strange lucky escape

Do you know what the Sidewinder's loadout was? I've seen small ships armed with missiles and even torpedoes that they don't use until your shields are down. At point blank range it might explain the sudden catestrophic ship damage, although it doesn't explain what made the shields drop in the first place.

Was there a capitol ship in the area? if so it sound like you were inside it's hit box (it's a bug) that was introduced when the Capitol ships started to maneuver in the fight.

Like Heater said, it does sound rather like the same behaviour you get with capital ship hitboxes. Perhaps it's also possible for normal NPC ships to end up with displaced hitboxes. Although on the other hand, if that were the case you'd think the Sidey would have popped before your shields went down.

I think I can see what happened here. You seem to have muscle memory on how to combat log.

There, figured it out for you. You're welcome.

Whatever it was, you should not have returned with full health. Sounds like a bug. If you were actually damaged and not killed, upon return you should still be damaged.

This sounds like the typical glitchy server connection. You might have glitched into something, like an asteroid or maybe an NPC. The fact that you were back to full health after restarting points to that too. The server clearly didn't register any of your hull loss.

I've had really terrible connectivity to the servers the last few days. Gave up on landing on a high gravity planet two days ago as I disconnected three times while in glide.

Similar thing happened to me last week. I was pulling a passenger transport in my Cobra MkIII when I was interdicted by a Competent NPC in an Adder. I submitted to the interdiction expecting to make a big grease spot out of the guy.

Came out of frame shift, adjusted my pips, and brought out my guns. Turned to face him and was just about to open fire when he hit me with... I don't know what. Shields were gone in an instant, two seconds later the game was chiming, "Eject! Eject!" and that was all she wrote.

No idea what that Adder was packing, but I've never seen anything like it before or since.

My guess is some kind of hitbox glitch. I had some floating rocks take my shields down very quickly a while back.

He got close and unloaded his weapons into your ship at point-blank range. Simple. If I get within 50 meters and pop a couple of torps into you, you are done.

Remember also that some of the NPCs you encounter will be ranked Elite and will be much more powerful than you. The game does not usually throw comparable opponents at you, it will throw all sorts of opponents at you. You will get paid less for killing weaker opponents and more for stronger opponents, but you will get all kinds. Pick your fights. When the fur starts balling up, check the combat rank of your opponent. If he is ranked Elite, you might consider running away and surviving to fight another day. o7

It was a Sidewinder. It has two class 1 hardpoints to work with. Even a Sidey which could sustain fire on two rails (just barely possible with a great PD roll, reduced distro draw on the rail mods and dumping heatsinks to avoid burning up) would need just under 40 seconds to destroy an unengineered Python with 6A shields, lightweight bulkheads and no shield boosters or HRPs.

Torpedoes are a joke aside from reverb cascade. A pair of them deal 240 explosive damage, and wouldn't even do that when fired from within 50m because of their arming time.

What was the Elite ranking for the mission? If a player accepts higher ones they will get better opponents no matter what a players current ranking. Those with Deadly and Elite ratings will often have engineered weapons which can quickly end you. They often like thermal shock which boils your ship. Boost and scoot plus jumping local or to another system is your best defense. Mild engineering to get the Python boost speed up past 420 plus and no ship even with engineering will damage you seriously with their weapons.

Uh, no. An NPC Sidewinder destroying a player Conda in seconds? I don't think so. :D

No mattet how strong a NPC, there is still that hardware gap.

I mean a sidey? Tore up a python shields in seconds?
