Coaster Crazy Any ideas for some new daily challenges, anyone

Any ideas for some new daily challenges, anyone?

This is aimed at all fellow 'Coaster Crazy' fans who enjoy building ulta-smooth, creative, sweeping and 'fluid' rides that weave in and out (rather than stop/start disjointed efforts overloaded with special 'crazy' pieces). Could we please have JUST ONE moon challenge (say on the 1st day of each month) that truly tests our coaster designing expertise - and allows us to feature up there on the leader-board. Who knows, the rest of the CC community might enjoy downloading and riding the winning designs purely for a little bit of inspiration. (First posted on topic 30/12/12)

Here's my first suggested challenge . . . .

COASTER TYPE: Build a wooden coaster with a maximum height of 40 metres.

PERMITTED 'SPECIALS': Select from 'Tunnels' and/or 'Utilities' only. No other 'special' track pieces can be used.

SCENERY: During its route, your coaster must pass through any chosen scenery at least 15 times in total.

TOTAL COASTER SCORE: Earn a score of between 375,000 (min) and 425,000 (max). Duck bonus must be in excess of 3,000.

Thanks.

Mr Wibbs.

Hi Mr Wibbs,

We can't really add challenges to the Sandbox that inhibit people's ability to use any special piece that they wish, as it goes completely against the Sandbox philosophy.

There is an Earth plot that may appeal to what you're asking for though. If you go to Sahara Desert in Africa the track challenges ask for a minimum of 100,000 points and an excitement rating of +7. The kicker though is that you have to do it with absolutely now allowance for special pieces, so entirely with scenery and your own ability to twist the track into interesting sections.

Thanks for the quick response Ashley,

I've revisited the 'Sahara' like you suggest and many of the leader-board designs are quite impressive - so I take back what I said about some of the regular CC community not being able to build 'fluid' coasters. Some are quite novel.

You've thrown the gauntlet down now - so I look forward to seeing if I can match or even beat the top 'Sahara' scores later. Quick question: Am I right in thinking you cannot upload your own designs (except Sandbox) until every challenge (incl. North Pole) is complete?

Mr Wibbs.

Yes that's right, you need to complete all the challenges on a specific plot before you can upload a score to it. ;)

Don't challenges themselves go against the sandbox philosophy? A challenge tells you a max height or max seconds inverted or places other restrictions. Why can't special pieces be restricted to make more interesting coasters?

There's nothing stopping you from making whatever coaster you like in the Sandbox mode, there just also happens to be daily challenges that allow people to earn gems. This gives those players that enjoy the challenges additional longivity from the game.

Right, but can't the challenge say "Complete a coaster without using any crazy pieces?" That seems to be what the OP was asking. People could still sandbox anything they want and the challenge is there for people who want to try it.

So, maybe TWO "Submit" button options?

Thanks Gruven. So two of us (well three - if you count Mikeh1993 from my original post on 29/12/12) feel the same way. This morning, I submitted today's coaster challenge and met all four targets:

Lift Up (Suspended).
30mph min ave speed.
Max 3.5 lateral G's.
600 metres min coaster length.

Probably just like you, I haven't spent a shed load of gems on crazy pieces, the coaster "sweeps majestically" (thanks Cleese) in and out of maxed-out scenery, has one smooth complete uninterrupted 'fluid' circuit, no jet trails of yellow vomit, and finishes with a gentle stop into the "lift up" - and then a perfect entry bonus as the car moves in to station with no brakes. My score is 558,067. Signs of a sad mis- spent youth, it took a couple of hours to refine - but it was fun.

No one will ever get to see the ride because, through choice, I refuse to 'cheat' with a phenomenal 1,000,000 + score building a coaster that no-one enjoys riding. The 'eject' button gets tapped as soon as I see the first of the dozen or so obligatory 'Thrill Lifts' that people cram in to get a high score. Their rides are like a beautifully dressed attractive brunette strutting down a catwalk and tripping up and falling flat on her face every step of way.

The success of this brilliant game from the clever Frontier people (who are not a charity but a commercial enterprise) relies heavily on seeing an investment return on their product, so I fully respect their wish to encourage players to purchase gems in order to achieve high scores. History, however, suggests that Frontier are also highly enthusiastic (and probably obsessive) about coasters, so maybe instead of just one day a month agreeing to a ban on 'Crazy Specials', there could be another way . . .

Once you've done the daily challenge offer TWO "Submit" button options - both giving you the chance to win gems for each challenge completed. Choose either 'Submit here for high scoring leader-board plus earn bonus experience points & cash' OR 'Submit here for classic coaster designs (no bonus)'.

What do you think?

Mr Wibbs.

I don't see why it would be hard to come up with new challenges where special pieces can't be used at all. You can get at most 4 gems by doing the daily challenge and alot of times at first, I only got 2 or 3 because I didnt have the special piece needed for the challenge.

I understand why the developers include them, but I really do not see why they can't say no special pieces as part of a challenge as well.
