- Player owned mining operations?

Players invest in mining gear, take it down to a planets surface and build an outpost with their SRV that withdraws mineral commodities on a regular basis that can be sold for profit. Could be raided by others, so the player could further invest in defensive weapons, AA turrets, sentry bots, etc. Or they could head into deep space and put it on a planet well outside of the core.


- Player owned planet installations?

Planet based series of buildings that let you store ships, commodities, modules, etc. Further investment could allow for repair, rearming, etc. These facilities would be expensive to establish / maintain. Should be limited to a small number per player. One to three would be sufficient in my mind. Once established, they would be permanent. Unless, you want to get into the space realty business. - Dedicated Fuel Rat ship?

Long range vessel with dedicated repair and refuel facilities to handle any size ship repair that was encountered in deep space for hull and canopy repair. Stripped down to bare minimum for maximum jump range, would have no weapon hard points, minimal utility slots and cargo bays. Incapable of repairing itself, it can only do so at an established dock.


- Inter-station Transport

You are in Lave and need to get to a ship you have stored in Dea Motrona, but don't want to take a ship all that way. Instead, you book passage on a passenger liner through the galaxy map and travel from one station to the other in real time. You watch the surroundings as the ship fuel scoops and navigates its way between the stars and get to experience the galaxy essentially as a tourist looking out the window. Possible add-ons could include a casino on route to make a few credits.


The above musings were inspired by the following quote in a recent article:

But even in a position of proven success, it’s no less nerve-wracking to hand your passion project over to players. “The game is building and improving, and doing it in the public eye is very interesting because it concentrates the mind,” he admits. “The Internet can be a cruel place, but there a lot of good, well-meaning people out there who want to make sure that we do make it better. Some of [those requests] are quite big asks, but we respond to most of them as best we can.

No I'd prefer a Mining SRV That I can go set up and clear off when done

No - Against player built bases outpost and stations My view if you can build you must be able to destroy - If I go on holiday who pays for all the ships I have lost?

No - But like the idea of being able to repair others, the rest we can already do

No- don't want to be stopped playing the game whilst I travel BUT I quite like the idea of having someone bring a ship to you 1hr per 10LY at a fee equivalent to your insurance

1. I don't want something that players can just spam and get and get free money. Players are rich in elite and some are poor. If you make it expensive poor players can't take part if you make it accessible players with 2 billion cr will make a big farm and get a lot of money really easy. And i don't like the idea of something just making money to you like harvesters etc. Nice mining mechanics would be 100% better than just boring thing you place that print cr.

2. I want my own small place to call home. But it need to be like in ark or rust, if its just default blocks you can place, then you may just leave it out.

3. NOOOOOOOO. Just add repair limpet controller that work like AFMU but can repair. No specific ship that is other vice pointless ship.

4. Well we will see what 2.2 – Guardians and 2.3 the commanders bring us. But probably won't happen before they separate commanders (players character) from ships.

A few nos more to do with your implementation rather than concept

A person with absolute vision...

1/ Would you build a base where it's likely to be found? Without defense, You deserve it being destroyed.

2/ See 1.

3/ An opportunity for an expansive gameplay. Yeah, I hate that too :(

4/ Already being considered, how they implement it is another thing. I doubt it would be more than numbers on the BB to begin with.

OP.. I like your ideas.

I'd like to see the return of the MB4 Mining Machine. It would open the door for surface mining, which in my opinion, would be a nice addition to the list of things to do on a planetary surface.

I also would like a ship delivery service, based on value of the ship + distance, with a maximum distance limit of say, 150-200LY.

That is all. ;)
 
All suggestions are ok in my book. Some would require more complex systems be implemented first (just think about the interface to be able to build settlements, or a system to simulate / manage settlement expenses - and what happens when costs cannot be covered), which is why I don't see them coming any time soon.
