any kind cmndr have some ship suggestion?

Ok so I need an advice from a more experienced commander.

I have an almost maxed Type 6 and an almost maxed Viper.

I totally miss my Cobra because I’m lazy and I hate to be forced to get back to base to pickup the combat ship.

I have 1.3 milion now, and with my Lakon I can make 100.000cr (100 ton cargo) for a trip with 2 jumps that takes me less than 10 minutes. So basically I can have 500.000cr per hour.

I want a new ship but I want to max it out at the TOP TOP TOP tier.

I do powerplay and I’m starting to grind on that because I like it, but I like more to trade and defend myself in combat when I get interdicted.

Suggestions? Full COBRA? Wait to have 4 milion to buy the Diamondback? I want a fast, combat capable cargo ship.

AntodenA needs your help :)

My next move was to the T7 and from there the Clipper. The T6 was a good old ship, the T7 is like a flying brick with all the manoeuvrability of a wardrobe floating in treacle molasses. But it earns you the money for the Clipper.

I used the T6 to do rares runs till I could afford the T7, then used the T7 to do normal trading until I could scrape a clipper. I now have a maxed out Clippy and enough to buy the T9 but I will keep on till ive got enough for a conda as the T9 looks like a T7 with concrete boots on.

I believe you are looking for an Imperial Clipper. It can be configured to do most anything. But, it is costly. A 20 mil buy in if I remember right. You may just want to work up the credits, or get there in steps. An Asp, 6 mil buy in, is another ship you should look at. An Asp can earn you many a credit if you dig into the Rares trading routine, and they can defend themselves nicely.

T7 is a long way off for him and doesnt fit his spec. What about the db scout as a stepping stone.

Fast enough to submit and boost. Ok for combat. Slight step up from viper. So could sell viper.

Then db explorer.

If you want more cargo similar to t6 then the asp is next but way more expensive.

I went a different route. Did a lot of combat early on in a Vulture so I could get an Asp, went exploring for a while, came back and sold the data for about 6 million. Then I did some trading in the Asp until I could afford a Clipper and that's what I'm flying at the minute. I've got 184 tonnes of cargo space and a pretty well kitted out Clipper that I'm trading in and doing a bit of combat now and then. Beautiful ship.

Thanks all for the precious advices. Everyone said something pretty useful and I think I have an answer.

I should find the strength to buy an ASP. And afterwards I feel suited for a Clipper.

I’ve saw their caracteristics and I think they will suit me pretty well both of them.

So actually I need to start working on making money for them.

As CMDR Philip seems pretty experienced I’m asking: do you have any suggestion to speed up my money build? I’ve never done rares and sincerely I don’t even know how to start.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks again guys, pretty awesome community you are.

T6 rares trading will get you money reasonably quickly. Its a grind but it got me my T7 which earnt me enough to buy clipper. I'd do the leesti/lave zone rares, fill up hold in these zones then off to witchhaul, sell rares and fill up more rares from this zone and then back again. Over and over and over. I'd buy a viper in witchhaul and do some combat to break up the monotony. Then repeat.

The Clipper is over 70 million to outfit completely so you're a long way off from that. For a good all rounder I'd strongly suggest the Asp. It's basically a Cobra on steroids, but not as fast.
It can be kitted out to trade with a Class3 shield and 120 Tons of Cargo for about 7 mill, making money faster than your T-6. Then you can upgrade as you go along. It's got a brilliant jump range to help you move around space and can carry 6 weapons. Upgrade to a class 5 shield for combat and 4 utility mounts make it very versatile.

Have a look yourself.

Best way to make money is trading without a doubt. There are some tools you can use to show you the best routes but I stumbled across my route when I was coming back from exploring. I make 1200 credits / tonne one way and 1400 credits a tonne on the return. The systems I'm trading in are about 18ly apart and the stations are pretty close to the stars. Quite happy to DM you the location of my patch but it is on the outskirts of Imperial space so probably a bit of a trek to get to. I'll see if I can find a link or two for the trading tools to speed you on the way.

Edit:

Thrudds: http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

There are others out there and I'll be honest I've never used them but plenty of folk have so I'm sure they can give you some advice.

Edit again!: Here's a link to a thread that lists a whole pile of third party software including trading tools, you should find one you like in there somewhere!

i'm really thankful for your help CMDR! Much appreciated!

The Clipper is the next step from a T6 and Viper.. It can do both roles quite well. I'm not sure if you've seen this before, but its a good guide to see in one place what's what spec wise.

I myself have an A grade Cobra, kitted out as my smuggling ship, I have a trade kitted Clipper and an A grade Vulture for combat. I tried the FDL and the Python and neither really did it for me... The L9 is only good for trading pretty much. I have not tried the courier or any of the diamondbacks yet, killed plenty though :D
I've been flying since Beta and looking forward to getting an Anaconda again at some point.. until then, plenty of fun to be had in RES killing and maiming and running away!! lol

I got the money for the ASP and Vulture I'm flying now trading rares in my T6. The easy to get started is to find two clusters of rares about 140 Ly apart. For me the Leesti/Diso/Lave cluster and a couple of rares around Witchhaul worked. After that I optimized by planning a continuous route using the on-line tools for that. You get a bit more credits per hour that way but it gets boring fast. Jump-jump-jump go to station, sell/buy what's on your list, jump-jump-jump etcetera.
Another way to go might be to go bounty hunting in a RES with your viper. I only started doing that after I got my Vulture and it's pretty lucrative, I'm saving up for a Clipper now. I can imagine you can make some good money with a Viper that way too.

Another way you could go could be the Imperial Courier. It's a bit more versatile than the Viper and Vulture but still can be a good combat ship. Just make sure you start grinding imperial rank ASAP. For some people it goes very quick. For me it took at least a week to get up to the Serf level needed for that ship.

Ah not at all! Just learn to yaw instead of pitch and the T7 isn't too bad at all. :) It's not as nippy as the smaller ships, but in some respects it's slightly easier to handle than even an Asp.

Asp is a good next step. Kitted out to defend itself it can still carry around 90 or more tonne.
You can go back and forth bounty hunting and hauling. If you need a break from both, it's the go to ship for exploration because of it's jump range.

Youre right that its expensive, but you could get a nicely working Clipper (Combat and maybe some rare trading) for half of that. In my opinion, with ships that size you get to a point where its not always worth getting that class 6 A rated component for 16+ M, but instead the C rated for around 2 would do the job as well. But otherwise you are right of course, and thats just my opinion.

Best regards

Split the two kind of business or you won't be able to do any at its best and get the best profit both in terms of money earning and fun.
Buy the best trading ship you can afford and use it to earn money enough to buy the best combat ship you can afford then use it to have some fun while earning money enough to buy a better trading ship then use it to earn money enough to buy a better combat ship.

This way I ended up with a 88 MCr worth T9 that earns me 4.5-5.5 MCr/hour depending on prices fluctuation, a maxfitted Clipper worth almost 130 MCr for PvE open play (too high rebuy cost to risk it in PvP) and and a maxfitted Vulture wort almost 25 MCr for open play PvP (and "scazzing" around).

P.S. If you did not understand anything I'll explain it in italian next time we meet.

Asp

you can run an armed Asp that can handle most pirates (and fast enough to run from big ones) and simple combat missions, with 100+ cargo space, 30+ LY jump range, and still able to dock at outposts.

You'll need about 20m to kit it A-class.

yep at your point I traded in rares in the cobra to get asp and then did a bit of nav hunting on route. after had t7 but decided normal a-b trading not for me so got vulture before res were nerfed then sold asp and t7 for python. Now acquired a db scout for fun.

If you want to trade, you need a Type-7 next. If I were you I would strip the viper of any parts worth anything, trade in the T-6 and invest in a a T-7. I wouldn't buy it however unless you have about 27 mil net worth though (you can see your net worh under statistics, it includes the price of you ship) you need to have A class thrusters, A class shields and a Shield Cell Bank, and preferably an A class Power Distributor, plus the money to pay insurance AND money to fill your cargo hold. I was making at leat 3 million/hour with my T-7, try trading in Supercoductors if you can find them cheap <6200 cr (Refinery systems that AREN'T also high tech).
