PvP Any mediocre PvP players out there?

In the spirit of Marcus Machiavelli post on how PvP players can contribute to the entertainment of PvE players, I like to put a little focus on the silent majority of PvPers.

When I roam the galaxy, I very rarely meet any leet PvP players. The FA-off lords with Plasma/Rail setups are usually no where to be seen. I do however run into quite a few of the more average PvP pilots.
These guys do almost always run FdLs or Anacondas with full gimballed Multi cannon set up. They are not particularly skilled and probably get by, being more selective with their targets. They hang out in quieter places and often in pairs.

Are any of you on the forum?
If so, I just want to say thanks for adding a little spice.
Being a player hunter, without being 'gud' is probably the least respected occupation in ED. I fully understand that you don't your self much on the forum. :)

I'd call myself a "mediocre PvP player" but that's more saying that I'm "a player who is mediocre at PvP" rather than being "a PvP player with mediocre skills." For me, PvP is there - and appreciated when it's got more to it than "Hollow box! Shoot it!" - but incidental. This means I'm usually running my preferred NPC-shredding loadout of fixed beams & gimballed MCs. I can hit my target with fixed projectile guns but I want to reserve the option of keeping both sizzle and dakka on target at the same time, which means oneof them has to have tracking and as a practical consideration that means it's the hitscan weapons that stay fixed for the frequent case of fast crossing snapshots. I've occasionally gone NPC-hunting in one of my more agile ships with rails, and will do so again for the practice which I sorely need, but I don't mount them as a rule on any ship because when I meet a hostile player with even moderate piloting ability they may as well be empty hardpoints at my current skill level with them.

So that means I'm probably not one of the folks who you're thanking here but if we were to meet up with cause to resort to "high energy communication" I'd hope to provide just a pinch of that spice :)

not played in months. just saying i did often run a fdl with fixed beam and gimballed multis (or dbx with rails, or eagle with beam/missiles, or viper with cannons, or ...). last time i played i switched to my new pedals (from joystick twist yaw) and there is indeed a steep learning curve ahead. i'm waiting for my fulll new hotas setup to get on with that, and i'll probably do it in il2-sturmovik, not in elite.

so dunno if i qualify for you as 'mediocre pvper', might well be, anycase couldn't care less about and good luck getting a meaningful conversation with such a naive drivel presentation you just posted :p

edit: i mean, it's not only the ignorance displayed in saying using gimbals is mediocre, it's the hilarity of speaking of 'pvp overlords' in what is essentially a mediocre pvp game by any standard, and that's being generous :D

yeah, whatever, dude...

You got peeved by that? :S

I'm just saying I'm happy that there are players that don't feel the need to be the best of the best to engage in PvP.
Being chased by another player isn't exactly something that happens every day in ED. It always adds a bit of excitement.
Being a mediocre player my self, I appreciate these encounters. :)

Hiya o/ :)

Yep, I'm a total gimbal skank and happy with it :D

For me, PvP encounters consist of me trying to rob anything weaker than me whilst giggling and running from anything stronger than me!

I have no desire for "top-tier" or "honorable" PvP. From what I've seen and read, it looks rather dull, although that's just my personal taste, of course! I'm glad that there are players who get engrossed in it and enjoy themselves with it.

I have no ego to bruise, nor the anatomy to feel the need to compensate for. For me, it just adds to my narrative and gives me a bit of excitement and a chuckle!

You will usually find me around CG's looking for 1v1s. I am a casual pvper who uses Flight assist off and fixed guns. Hardcore PVP is fun but a little dull due to everyone flying the FAS & FDL.

I like to think that I rose to the "fairly decent" end of the "mediocre" spectrum. I could smash any PvE player I encountered without too much sweat and had decent odds against some regular PvPers, but against the real heavy hitters I never rose above being target practice for those guys. I had a lot of fun trying though, and learned a lot.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I've engaged with some duels with folks, and am not opposed to fighting it out with someone if I'm interdicted. I am definitely a terrible PvPer though. I don't think I've actually destroyed another player since like Alpha. lol.

Now if you count successfully running away.... ;)

I know a guy. He works at McDonalds on the night shift, so early morning or mid afternoons USA time would be best. Let me know and I'll PM him.

Gimbals aren't necessarily bad though, especially for shooting at shields where the exact location you strike doesn't matter. The cool thing about gimbals is you can have a huge delta velocity v.s. your opponent and not have to tip your nose far in front of them to hit. You can also be pointing your nose away from your opponent when using lasers, which can be pretty great if you are flying with FA off and dodging madly.

Feel free to give my group a heads up on regular places that these characters hang out. We're not the best PvPers in the game, but we're always up for fighting what you so diplomatically call player hunters :)

You think ?

I don't know if I belong in that category ?
I fly my FDL with A huge Multi and the rest Frags.
I do this because its the most fun.
I don't do the PA / Rail Meta.
As a result I see the rebuy screen much more than I could.

Nah, gimbals in PvP are a death wish, people carry double chaff and combine this with TLB and dispersal PAs you wont hit anything.

The only viable gimbal weapon is frags.

Most of them playin PUGB atm, since they got lil' bored with Elite, but some of them probly will play again after 3.0... Since cheftain is coming and RNG changes as well..
