Any New Plans on ED ? Or is it still Maintenance Mode without any Future ?

Been a while I checked.
So. Has Frontier actually announced any actual Development Work being Planned for ED in the Future ?

Or is it still just Bugfixing and stuff which is basicly Maintenance Mode.
Thus the Game basicly not being Developed anymore ?

If you mean "have they announced another Odyssey-sized expansion is under development", then no.

If you mean "have they announced at least some non-specific developments sufficiently larger than a bugfix to be able to excite a community manager", then yes, one of those in 6-12 months time, unless it's late.

D. Braben walks into the basement room where they keep the community managers, finds them all asleep and says "Keep up the good work people, you're all fired by the way"

Bill

Then, on the walk back to his office, remembers the reason they have community managers in the first place is so he doesn't have to deal with the likes of us lot..........

Recent thread with all the answers & opinions already filled in:

I think it's still in "fix the bugs that were introduced in the last update" mode, been going on a fair few years that ;)

it has a future since it exists now since the future becomes now constantly until it doesn't exist anymore.. But in that situation, it wont exist now as the first instant when that state alters the question "does it have a future" and something that doesn't exist can't have a future since it already no longer exists . So asking if something has a future is always going to return "yes" or "undefined" because it doesn't make sense to ask if something that doesn't exist has a future. it's like dividing by zero.

We have a couple of updates coming (August and November) as well as a feature update in early 2023. That's all for now.

Personally, I think after that feature update, I think that will be it for the major development of the game. While we will continue to get an in depth story/narrative complete with community goals, Gal Net, unique and double engineered modules, paint jobs and decals, along with "random out of the blue" missions like "go here and look around 200 light years for secret base" I think that is all we will get going forward. Also, and of course, new cosmetics will be continually added to the ARX store.

While they could continue narrative after narrative for years and years, we will no longer get new assests or content like ships or interiors, new loops/mechanincs, or new expansions.

I really REALLY hope I'm wrong, but I think the game will remain "on and alive, with narrative content" and that's it.

I was going to reply to this as if it was serious, but then I noticed the idiosyncratic use of punctuation marks and decided it was art.

Our mentor David Braben is super excited about what is coming up in the next (or was it past?!) years. He enthusies of cities, skies, clouds, atmospheric landings as well as walkng around on ships and space stations, about plants like trees and animals ... But David also says some things won't arrive at launch because he wants to do things right. So be patient. 👀

been away (mostly) for about 2yrs. the odd thing of interest. just got my 'Monthly News letter #2' . looks like the development pathway for ED is Deliver Us Mars - or is that just a rehash of old code to deliver a fast buck(y ball) to support the ED dev team? cynical AF by now, sorry

I am fine with any actual Content Development thats not just Narrative or Fixing stuff.

For example.
What became of Atmospheric Landings, Ship Interiors, Planetary Mining etc.
That Direction.

Stuff like that which would still count as part of the Odyssey Season is fine.

The Idea of your Future Comments being seen by me. Is fading right now tough.
Cause I am considering to ignore you.

Albeit then I would not see your old stuff either anymore. So from my Viewpoint you would have stopped existing as well.

That would mean the Game is Dead.
Its not Finished right now. So just adding Narrative meabs it will Die as Unfinished Trash.

So you Judge others by their Skills in writing correct English in an online Forum ?
My Condolences.

I.ll Trust him if he makes an Official Announcement of Development.
Him talking about dreams and Fantasy I dont care about.

Have a look in the Announcements forum?

Too much irrelevant spam.

That's my take on things. Perhaps a new ship or SRV or Thargoid foot solders are coming later this year or next, but I don't honestly expect Elite to be finished to the full extent of everything David Braben pitched during the kickstarter, ever.. I don't see any chance for water worlds, worlds with weather, or even comets for that matter, let alone ELWs, ship interiors, and all those other things we once hoped for. I think Odyssey was and is the last "great" (in effort more than quality) DLC for Elite. I could, of course, be wrong about that, but this is where I'm placing my bets.

One thing's for certain: many people on the internet don't know what "maintenance mode" means, and instead conflate it to mean "not working on what i want them to work on".

I am frankly fine if they work on anything to further Develop the Game.

But this pretty much is Maintenance Mode.
Nothing new is added. Nothing existing expanded.

Bugfixes, Optimisation, Balancing and Narrative.
Thats just keeping the Lights on.
Its not adding anything to the Game.

The Rework might add something.
But given how Vague they are its likely just some Balance Changes and a Revamp of Engineering.
We wont know till they stop being Silent.
But I am not getting my Hopes up.
