Any News on getting additional Ground Vehicles aside from the Standard SRV ?

Mechs would be a great fit for this game.

I'd like to see NPC SRV's too. Scarab to scarab combat.

It was always funny thinking about the weapons fire hitting the glass canopy and thinking to oneself how strong it was...feels wrong wondering why our ships aren't made of glass if it's stronger than armour plating...gamewavium moment.

Would be cool to see some sorta effort made to at least attempt armour plating on a canopy as one assumes this to be a weak spot and a particularly vulnerable area.

Custom body kits fer existed srv maybe?

The Reason is Structural Stability, Thickness, Brittleness and Weight.
Actually. Armored Glass can reach similar Protection as Steel Plated Armor.
Especially in Modern Times when using Composite Glasses.
This is the Reason why many Skyskrapers have an Facade entirely Covered in Glass.

Bf109 Aircraft for example.
Had their Best Armor on the Front of the Cockpit because the Frontal Window was Armored Glass. And actually was better Armored than the remaining Cockpit :p

But to make Glass like that is not an easy Task. And its almost impossible to make any Connection Parts or Rounded Parts of larger Size of it.
So you mostly Produce Flat Plates which have to be Mounted together. And they are HEAVY as Crap....

So if you were to Build a Tank out of Armored Glass.
You would be able to Build it so that it would be pretty hard to Penetrate the Armored Glass.
But the Tank would likely Fly Apart when Fired at because the Connections would break apart under the Shocks and the Weight of the Glass :p

Moreover due to the Glasses Brittleness. Unlike Steel which will Bend and not Break that easily.
A Tank like that would be entirely Impossible to Repair once Hit. Because Glass will Break and not Bend :p

So for some Smaller Flat Surfaces.
Glass actually makes good Armor.
Even more so when you want to look through it.

But its entirely Unpractical for anything else xD

A hovercraft, on a planet with no atmosphere? I'd like to know how that would work.

Well. Why would it not Work :p
Hovercraft only means its a Craft that Hovers *gg*

Nobody demanded that it has to work by Air Cushions etc :p
Could be a Magnetic Hovercraft or whatever other Futuristic Idea you can come up with xD

As an sidenote.
Well I would already be Happy if we got like 2 more SRV Classes. And add some Setups

1. Scout Jeep. Which would be much Faster for Driving over a Planet (like 200% of the Speed an SRV has) and have only 1 Cargo Slot.
2. The Standard SRV for All Terrain and Multi Role stuff.
3. A Heavy Tracked Vehicle which has 2 Gun Turrets and like 10 Cargo Slots but of course goes like 30% of the Speed an Standard SRV has.

Jeep would have same Size as the SRV. So
The heavy Tracked Vehicle would require an Class 4 Vehicle Hangar and would Occupy both Slots at once :p

Also. Just like with the Fighters.
There should be some Variants here.

Each of the Classes should have a few Weapon Choices.
And maybe some Choices to Trade Smaller Shields for more Cargo Space or for a Better Engine etc.
Could have 4 Variants for each Vehicle.

Fast - Half Cargo but Increased Speed (Only Heavy and SRV. Not available for Jeep)
Light - Smaller Shields but Increased Engine Power for higher Speed and better Jumppower (Only SRV and Jeep not available for Heavy)
Cargo - Smaller Shields but Double Cargo. (All variants)
Combat - Mini Plasma Repeaters instead of Dual Repeaters and a Stronger Power Distributor but Half Cargo. (All variants)

That would already be more than enough to make me Happy right now :p

I must admit this is one of those things that does baffle me..

Having multiple SRV types its an obvious addition im surprised it hasn't been done.

The current buggy is sort of an all rounder but theirs so much room for more. Like a slower larger one for cargo capacity, and a scout vehicle which is very fast with no cargo capacity and a smaller fuel tank. Even a slower more powerful vehicle for steep terrain. OFC you could have a stronger more combat focused SRV, the list goes on.

This would also justify the existence of the 4 bay hanger seen as atm all that does is reduce your range, don't see the point in it.

I don't think it's the module size that'll be the issue here. Sure, we could have new SRV's the size of an Abrahams main battle tank, in a size 7 slot, but it ain't gonna fit through the current deployment hole, that is a standard size on all ships, without a remodel.

That said, I'm all on-board with some new types of planetary vehicle. Mining, combat, reconnaissance, and anything else you can think of. And module upgrades. And a drinks holder. Seriously, I got nowhere to put my Lavian Brandy! :(

If they're going to expand on the SRV suite they should do it properly and make them configurable with modules like ships are, and apply an appropriate damage model to the modules.

Small, medium and large SRV frames, with an increasing number of available slots and requiring an increasingly large ship module bay.
The 'immersion' crowd are going to complain about whether the damn things fit through the bay doors, but sometimes you need to let the game be more important than the realism (YMMV).

That's easy just get bigger bay doors, something easy to do on a bigger ship.

Either bigger bay doors, or tie them into using the same hatch that SLFs use. New SRVs, some fit in the old deploy hatch and others use the SLF deploy pad, easily large enough to deploy a bigger vehicle.

I have been thinking of an Imperial SRV that is sleek in design, moves faster, a weaker hull, and a laser based weapon. Also thinking of a Federal SRV with the tactical look fed ships have but it's slower , has a stronger hull, and a type of cannon/multicannon.

But how are you gonna launch an SRV from a fighter bay if the ship is on the ground?
The landing gear is going to have to raise up about 20m. Have ya seen the bay doors on a Conda's fighter hanger and how far they come down, especially the outer doors? They extend pretty far.

Not knockin' your idea, just thinking practically. Though that might be the better approach actually... redo the way the doors open on the fighter bays and voila. We'd be limited to larger planetary vehicles being available to ships capable of fitting a fighter hanger, but I think i could live with that.

Put a scanner and cargo bay on a SLF. Make that fighter big, slow and expensive. Yes it would make SRVs obsolete but is that such a bad thing really?

how about submarines for the water worlds?

Sure as long as we get the Moray Starboat too.

:D

I can't believe someone hasn't posted the [beating_dead_horse.gif].

I agree though a few more SRV's would be nice.
