Horizons Any news on the fix for the medium distance blurry planets?

Some planets looks just awful at medium distance, no details at all, just a blurry mess. I know for a fact that on the 2.1 beta discussions some FD staff said that they are working on the fix.

Any news on the issue?, Im having a hard time exploring because of this, some planets are a mess and I feel like Im wasting some amazing sights....

Thanks!

I agree, pre 2.1 planet flying and exploration was visually pleasing, now it hurts the eyes when it's blurry.
.
I haven't seen an update on any improvement on this.

Here, here i would like to add my voice to this aswell, some of the planets look terrible on approach now but were great before 2.1

I'm also finding that pop-in is extremely bad when cruising along the planet surface from a few hundred meters up. It has become very irritating to look at.

aye, this is even more "in your face" when playing in VR.

I get that FD need to support lower end machines, and am totally fine with that, however some extra draw distance LOD sliders would be great.... even if right now on full you could bring a top of the line machine to its knees, so what, it is there for the future.
(ideally with some preset benchmarks so the computer can set them for us, then allowing us to go in and fiddle if we choose)

I've seen a lot of people saying this has become worse since 2.1 but for me the mid-distance planetary graphics have been very poor since 2.0 (to be clear this applies to landable planets - ELWs, gas giants etc. have stayed the same). Certainly the up-close graphics have improved since 2.1.

In VR it's even more horrible, not helped by having to turn down the graphics settings (although even on Ultra they still look poor). Upping the pixel density to 2.0 helps somewhat with the sharpness from a distance but as you get close the planetary "features" turn into a blurry mess once more.

What's interesting is that I've seen people say they see no issues with this, making we wonder if it only affects certain graphics cards?

Because I stopped playing before 2.1 I might stick my nose in a discussion that I don't really know what you guys are saying. But, I was using SweetFX that made the game looks pretty awesome and that could be a help to you guys. I hope ICO_hr will not mind if I put here a link to his thread about this great tool so here it is:

I didn't use it just yet with 2.1 but I'm pretty sure it will work, and on that thread you guys will find great explanations of different visual setups that you could use and maybe you will find something of a fix for your problems. Cheers and sorry if I'm offtopic :p

My computer is from the stone age, so I really don't have the right to complain about this, but the textures take MUCH longer to load in now than before 2.0.

Hi and thanks for the suggestion, but my only complain with the Elite graphics are the texture quality on planets when you are approaching, in orbit they look nice, up close they look amazing, but when you are like 5km above the surface... boy they look really ugly, it looks like some planets are made of plastic and you lose the sense of scope of the planet and the depth because of that, the terrain looks flat, blurry and boring, its like the planet is covered with cheap sheets lol...

Everything else is amazing, so, I dont really whan to use sweetfx because Im happy with the overall look of the game, I just want FD to fix something they know is broken.

Thank you though.

Yeah, it's the landable planets (those which have much more dynamic/deep LOD) which have the issue. They're like snooker balls until you get to about 5-10Mm (that probably varies) and then suddenly the detail pops in. I have a low-end machine so I'm not too surprised by it, but it seems it happens even to players with much higher-end rigs.
