Any professional Beggars around?

I was just wondering if anyone tried begging as a profession and if so, how it went.

The reason: Since the start of gamma, nobody has ever tried to pirate me, but unless he does it in a way that makes me chuckle or sheer sympathy, I can't see myself dropping cargo for a pirate.

On the other hand, I would be far more likely to drop a few spare coins for a beggar if he does it well, so it may actually be more lucrative.

That would be fun but only interesting for very new players.
As soon as you can make money on your own you start to make more then the time it takes to scoop up palladium.

But still more efficient than piracy, I'd guess.

Just curious: how much would you charitably donate a common beggar in his Anaconda?

Well - if the beggar has an Anaconda, nothing as he's most likely richer than me.

Haven't seen any beggers yet :) not even sure how I would react. I met plenty of pirates in my T9, most of them where idiots, but met a few cool guys. Have given away millions to friends privately, if someone in a hauler asked for a 20T of gold I'd probably do it, or sidewinder wanting 4T. No way if it was a Cobra or Type-6, they can make money fast themselves

Could you spare a few cannisters for a poor, old war veteran who is down on his luck and needs a few credits just to cover his insurance rebuy?

Wow! Beggars, a new role in Elie: Dangerous...whodathunkit? Great idea! Getting out in a 100% W n T Sidewinder should make some really good dosh!

Sure - should we meet in game i may drop some cannisters for you.

Would be worth a try - compared to piracy, it saves you interdicting the target (I'd suggest begging near populated starports letterboxes) using limpets/shooting the hatch and saves you the time with combat loggers or submission -> FSD users and I guess most people helping out a beggar would abandon the cargo, so better profit and no legal issues when selling it.

The fact that people aren't interdicted makes them more likely to cooperate on top (assuming most are a bit miffed after having been pulled out of SC).

I met a beggar! Said he was a down and out pirate, had had a bad day, couldn't afford rebut and could I please drop a couple of cans. I sympathised, but only had a few local rares, worthless unless hauled - he accepted them happily!

They will emerge immediately after Player to Player moneytransfer is added [/scare CMDRs to bed].

This will become more interesting as the game interaction tools get deeper. You could have beggar wings of ratty Sideys all jury-rigged; former T9 pilots who forgot insurance banding together to mooch like scavenger fish from the belly of some fat trader. Actually, desperation wings would make nice adhoc mercwork for people. LOST YOUR LAKON? FLY UNDER ME FOR A WHILE.

I could see someone doing this just for fun; see how far they can get across the galaxy on others' dimes. It's why we need more pilot slots, so we don't have to demean our Imperial barons with a stint as a dirty trampshipper.

"Spare a few bob? I'm starving here, my family is starving, we haven't eaten in three days."
".. you're in a python!"
"... A minor, irrelevant, detail."
"No it isn't!"
"Yes it is. So, you got some bob for me?"
"No."
"Stingy !." *FSD*

Well - the beggars ship of choice should probably be an Adder given our ships are our only visual representation in the game. I'd describe its look as a mix of cute and pitiful - add some bad wear and tear and it looks like the spaceship-equivalent to this:

Would this work?

"Remember that red-haired slave you had a jolly good summer with 18 years ago? Hello Dad, how about you spot me a bit of cargo to get your boy started?"
