Any stations in the Bubble Nebula?

I've made two attempts to travel there but both times I've turned back before arrival because some shiny thing distracts me off course, or I couldn't remember if I left the stove on. Are there any places to dock out there in that big purple cloud? Or is the next nearest station really 2,000ly away in another nebula? It would almost be a shame if there weren't at least one station in each nebula.

Searching for the info is kind of tough because "bubble" comes up in almost every thread. Why couldn't it be called the "Weird Purple Blob Nebula" instead?

I believe the closest is Heart Sector IR-V b2-0 which has a base on a planet that you can land on if you have Horizons.

Eddb is the website you need :)

Not all nebula have stations. This may be stupid but I just want to be sure since a lot of people make this mistake - You don't need to be docked to log-off, you can exit the game anywhere pretty much and pick up where you left off. :)

Heh, I hope by now everyone knows they can log out anywhere. I was just wondering because I have a few repairs to make and was thinking about upping my fuel capacity. I was hoping there was a station with outfitting (though that would be a long shot I guess) as my Clipper can only make 3 max distance jumps with the stock tank alone. I was considering adding a second tank to give it more of a safety net at the expense of lowering it's jump distance a little, something I should have thought of 200 jumps back. I guess though I'll just have to hope I don't run into a stretch of unscoopable stars. I always make sure my route planner filters those out, but once in a while they still sneak in.

Thanks for the info. Looking at it though, that place lacks outfitting so I'll just be turning around after I grab some pictures in Bubble Nebula.

If your repairs and upgrades are not super urgent, there is a "station" with outfitting coming: by the end of October the much-suffering megaship Gnosis will be near Heart and Soul nebulae and by the end of November it may finally arrive to the Rift :)

Haha sorry, I'm used to hanging around the Newcomers forum and its a surprisingly common misconception when people first start out :)

Ah yeah thats fair, the clipper is a lovely ship but unless stripped to the barebones its not ideal for long range travel in a hurry... Best of luck, you can always add to the Fuel Rat statistics!

Nearest with outfitting is https://eddb.io/system/33689
Sadly only a 5C fuel tank in stock last time it was updates.

I know exactly what you mean. On my first attempt to visit the Bubble Nebula (along with the Heart and Soul Nebulae), I too was distracted by shinies and never made it.
I have been there on a subsequent expedition now though, and can confirm that whilst there isn't a station in the Bubble Nebula itself, there is at least one station in either the Heart or Soul sector as has already been mentioned above. I can't remember exactly where but yeah check on EDDB. I stopped off there after visiting the Bubble Nebula before starting my trip home.

Also kudos to a fellow Clipper explorer!
My days of exploring in functional clunkers with huge jump ranges are over. I explore in luxury these days, I'll take the comparitively shorter jump range (engineered mine up to 38.5ly now which is more than enough for me) as a trade off for the speed, agility and comfort of my beloved Clipper. :)

Actually, as a Clipper owner I should disagree. Because of it's extremely huge 7A scoop Clipper is one of the best ships for jumping in a hurry ;) While in DBX you have to wait while it scoops, in Clipper you refuel just instantly. So if you don't scan on your way and just jump, you may get to your destination even faster than in DBX, which has one and a half times larger jumprange.

My experience doesn't agree. Yes the scoop is nice if you spend that much, even the 6A is good to fill the tank in one pass but over say 20 minutes of travel the additional jumps and loading screens make the difference.

The data we do have is the Buckyballers and their long distance A* challenge:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/168568-Buckyball-Racing-Club-presents-The-A*-Challenge

Best time Sol-Sag A* on the classic run:
DBX is 8hrs 40min with 18 entries
Clipper 13hrs 1min with 6 entries

Yes the scoop is nice but the DBX flattens the jump range.

Agreed, I only have a 7C scoop on mine and it still fills up almost instantly.
Things can get dicey if I have more than 2 or 3 big jumps in a patch of unscoopables, but if I keep the route filter to FOGKBAM then no worries.

The DBX might be able to jump further, but it's like exploring in a rust bucket compared to the luxury of a Clipper. :D

Yeah, the Heart & Soul nebulae are your best bet. There's an asteroid base in each of those, though one is a lot less convenient than the other.

Base Camp, 141,581 ls
Soul Sector EL-Y D7

I agree that the clipper needs an extra fuel tank to make a lovely explorer. I approve of basking in the dark. :)

Thanks to a quick eddb.io search 'stations with outfitting near bubble sector', one comes up with...

Medusa's Rock in Crescent Sector GW-W c1-8, 4 kylies away offers a class 5 fuel tank.
Past that, one has to return to the gnosis or the various california nebula stations. It'll be trivial to find what's needed in the numerous high tech stations in that area. Even the Gnosis seems to be at a similar distance.

Oh, and I recommend a stop by SADR on the way to and back the bubble nebula. A nebula highlight and an almost-record-breaking star in some respects.

Just completed my visit of the Bubble Nebula. I was surprised at how small it was once I got there (my ship could jump across the whole thing in one hop if I wanted). Seemed to be only a handful of systems within the nebula itself, and it took me several jumps within it to find any landable moons to make use of my SRV for surface pictures. I think I got some decent shots in there with the purple haze of the nebula making an interesting backdrop. A few surface pics on an icy moon overlooking a purple gas giant. Unfortunately the orbital plane of the moon and axis of the giant makes the views of it's ice rings side-on and hidden from the camera. So I opted to venture into the rings for some additional pics. I'll have to upload them somewhere later.

I will admit that when I originally got access to the Clipper I didn't see the value of it at first. The Cutter was better for trade in terms pure haulage so grinding for that seemed like the way to go, while the Python had outpost access that the Clipper didn't. The FDL had more firepower. I just didn't see a use for the ship, until now. As far as exploration goes it's just the most stylish choice while not quite breaking the bank like the Cutter does. Until a medium Imperial ship comes out, this is the way to do it. When I get back to civilization I'm going to make a point to engineer this beauty.

You can also use the use the Civilizations filter in the Galaxy Map - it's a very nice way of finding stations and outposts in the strangest of places.
I honestly did not know this was an option, one that I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of. Thank you.

The Heart Nebula Station is inside a huge asteroid, (which I believe you can land in without Horizons, but don't quote me on that) as is the one in the Soul Nebula nearby. Both of them are relatively close to the Bubble Nebula, at least within a couple thousand lys or something

Pictures from the trip, for anyone interested. Decided to put them here in case anyone else was considering a trip, it really is a pretty nebula.

Gotta love that purple. Big change up from the usual pitch black.

Down on an ice moon, with some pretty thick fog. Brrr, cold.

Just a profile of the ship with the gas giant in the background, the rings don't show up from this angle at all.

And heading home.

Having just completed a 611kly, 17k jump trip in my Clipper I am pretty confident that there is no need for an extra fuel tank in normal exploration circumstances.
But imagine how much more true exploration you could have done if you had an extra fuel tank!
(Just kidding :p)

I'm fairly certain you can land on asteroid bases without Horizons. They are pretty much the same as the other stations, just use a different model.

I never did run into a problem with the fuel, I was just concerned that I might as I'd had bad luck with a series of brown dwarf stars on other trips. I don't like having to replot my route or backtrack. The filter options generally work fine and I rarely run into a non-scoopable star on my trips, that being said I still encountered a neutron star on the way back when my filter is supposed to exclude them. If a fluke like that can happen once it could happen 3 times in a row, and at that point I'd have been stranded.

So after returning from the trip earlier today I exchanged the SRV hangar for an extra tank, then did engineering on the FSD from stock all the way up through grade 3. I'll have to do some mining to get further, but my jump range went from 35 to 43 already so I'm happy with that. I could get a bit more distance without the extra fuel weight, but being able to make so many more jumps, the unscoopable flukes are no longer a concern. Slightly reduced jump distance is worth the peace of mind, to me at least.
