PvP Any tips for fighting the Big Three?

I frequently find myself in situations where I end up against someone's over shielded tank. I usually end up having to run from them as I really only fly medium ships. The shields (especially Cutters) are monsterous and the fighters are a pain to kill with fixed weapons.

Any tips for me? My main ship is a Chieftain right now.

You need cascade rails if you are going to fight in a traditional way.

You could go with reverb mines if you want to dive bomb them first.

Basically, you need to be gods gift to FAO. You are not going to out tank them. So try not to get hit.
Honestly, the chance of you actually getting a kill, is pretty much zero against a half competent pilot. They will just insta low wake on the last ring.

But let's assume they do stick around, on your chieften ( Assuming its fully engineered and tough as nails. ) you want PA's and Rails.
Fly around like a crazy thing, avoiding being directly in front of them. Spam them with PA's and wait for them to bank. Hit them with a few salvos of rails quickly and if you are lucky you will cancel most of their recharge. Repeat until they run away.

The chief is agile, so you can do lots to keep out of its main fire arc. They will inevertibly just fly backwards and the most skill-less of them will be running long rang lasers to compliment. So either dont follow them or lose. ( zzzz )

If they do fight like men, you just need to hit hard, avoid damage and get your shields back up asap when they drop. You should be able to keep alive between charges.
It will probably take around 15minutes, so dont be expecting anything but a long drawn and snooze.

So: PA's, Rails, and FSD interupt then? Thanks!

Can't recall fighting a Cutter but I know having fought many Anacondas and a few Corvettes that you want to subtarget power plant and get underneath them to hit it.
This I find particularly easy to do if I'm in a faster ship and staying under them is pretty easy as well. Anaconda's blind spot is down there. You won't get hit while you blast his belly.

How easy is it if the target has armored pp of 200+ integrity and 2 MRPs?

Conda and vette.....out manuever and stick to the blind spots (or vectors with weakest weapons) and kill them slowly with a thousand cuts. Cutter, no idea, not sure I have fought many.

Some of the most success I have had against condas one on one is in a Vulture with a beam and PA....stayed on their belly (and NEVER nose to nose), melt the shields then PA them to death. Try soft spots like thrusters to really annoy them. I am sure there are more refined tactics, but this is my experience.

Bring a feedback rail.. without one of these, unless you are good with reverb mines or carrying enough torps, it's gonna be a long night.

Against the big 3 are where fixed weapons shine. Hitting a Cutter with a PA's or rails, is always gonna be easier than hitting an iEagle. So enjoy the opportunity to hit an easy target.

For practice, do Assassinations.

Yes a good point I left out of my post. Hitting the big 3 is a lot easier overall. Simply bigger hull to target. I seldom miss an anaconda with my PAs.

Well good luck to all but do remember some vette owners like my self have been playing for a while now, just because im a big target doesnt mean a single thing, i fly with fa off alot and i run, 2 huge pa, 2 imperial hammers on the med points, one with feedback cascade and the other with super penatrator, have 2 turreted beams on the small and a fixed frag cannon on the bottom so dont always under estimate a vette because you might come up against some one who knows how to fly the big boy.[big grin]

Yes flying and tactics matter of course but the OP was asking "how" and a good method to attempt is get underneath and a big target is easier to hit than a tiny faster one. Doesn't guarantee victory. It's just a method to try for it.

I've not tried the flechette. Is it really a viable anti-shield-tank weapon or (as I suspect) mostly useless?

having been on the receiving end, pretty viable - at least because i was not prepared and unaware of the weapon capability. certainly left me with a hefty repair bill. not sure how effective it would be now given the learning experience.
