Any tips for gaining rep with small factions?

My current goal is to get my alioth permit which requires allied rank with the alioth independants. Since they're based in alioth they only have a minor prescence in a few surrounding systems. This means there's very few missions around for them. I'm spending ages flying between stations just to find the occasional mission and from my previous experience you need 20-30 missions to get allied.

Are there any other ways I should try to get rep or any tips on maximising gain?

In the systems I gained repuation so far the number of missions increased after I finished some.

And there are also missions that provide reputation as an reward instead of Cr.
They are amongst those with the hand symbol and explicitely state reputation gain when you open them.

Trading with their stations and outposts should increase your rep too. Being mostly a bounty hunter I don't tend to gain rep but the one system I am friendly in is one I traded in a lot when I was saving for a Viper.

I'm pretty sure bounty hunting also gives you rep, since it is all I do atm and the game usually shows an arow up beneath certain small factions.
Also I gained a friendly rep with the Federation and all I did was bounty hunting.

The missions don't pay noticeably better than before though, from what I've seen.
