Any tips on doing Combat with an ICourier?

This ship is starting to become one of my favorites, but im used to PVEing in tanky ships. Any tips would be appreciated.

Are you using engineering?

The Courier benefits from low mass, especially with enhanced thrusters and the DD5 mod.
It actually has very good shields for its size.

Yeup. I still need Palin unlocked which im close to. Just need Sirius to gibe me that stupid permit still for Marco.

I don't have tips, but can add to uncertainty.

Can't decide if I should go low mass everything w/ enhanced thrusters, or max shields with normal thrusters and maybe even some hull reinforcement. Will probably end up buying another and doing both. Very fun ship!

Maybe that gives you an idea:

I personally dont use reinforcements on the courier, its strength is its speed so you dont want to handicap yourself. Besides, you should be long gone if your shields are gonna drop anyway.

I'm an old, slow, and a pretty awful combat pilot who is used to the crutch of massive shields in big ships. I've had the mind frame the speed doesn't matter so much for me, as I don't have the skill to profit from it offensively, but you have convinced me otherwise. I can certainly profit from the speed when running away.

You can be at just under 80t and still use EPTs with DD5s, with drive distributors.
That allows a little hull reinforcement for the odd crash etc, and some module reinforcement as well.
Heavy duty engineering to the stock bulkheads adds no mass.

I have full weight weapons on mine.
It's a mix of focused and long range mods.

My second Courier has an SRV, LW weapons, full sized FSD and fuel tank, and still uses EPTs.

The build I linked above includes 2 full weight weapons and stays under the dirty drive/drive distributor minimal mass for a top speed of 851m/s. You can build with whatever weapons you want but I highly recommend sticking with the core load out I have listed to achieve the speed maximum.

I like my courier to be fast. Here is a build I have been playing with. Its very stripped down, while maintaining a decent defense. Lots of engineered 1D hull armor, because it offers much better armor/weight than the higher class modules, for lower overall. Stack a bunch of them if you like speed. Two of the lightest shield boosters engineered heavy duty for more shields. Bi-weaves for faster recharge, of course. And, an overcharged 2A powerplant . . this is the kicker. You can dump a lot of weight on the PP (they are heavy) if you don't mind putting in extra work to engineer everything. You'll need those efficient PA upgrades too to stop yourself from overloading the PP (and they'd generate too much heat elsewise anyway).

So, yeah, boost of 650. You'll be flying fast and still pretty survivable! Possible variations: drop a shield booster or two to be faster/better PP margin. Drop the reactive armor and engineer lightweight instead if you want to be faster. Drop your FSD down a tier and don't engineer it if you don't mind having to taxi it everywhere.

OP, if you check out my channel you'll find several Courier PvP vids. In 18 months and scores upon scores of duels, taking down every kind of medium and small ship in the game, I learned that although speed is nice, the four pillars of Courier success are:

1. Lateral evasion.
2. Tankiness.
3. DPE.
4. Patience.

(The above are in reverse order. The most important, last.)

I agree on patience and DPE. There's no ship a courier can't kill.. but expect it to take a while. One of the most effective courier builds I ever did was shooting a single focused pulse with my pips to shields and engines. I had enough regen and evasiveness I was effectively invincible. It just took 15 minutes of constant shooting to widdle down some targets.

Don’t be afraid of Frankenbuilds, I say. The ship probably ‘needs’ engineering more than any other to take it to the top level.

I went lightweight with weps. One beam, one burst and one frag cannon with corrosive. The lasers fire more than long enough with 2 pips to Max G5 Charge Enhanced Cap. May stick a Rail on the bottom when I get around to it.

It boosts to 751ms with Reactive Armour and a planetary hanger...what’s not to love?

The Courier is my goto ship. I have some engineering done including legacy DD5 drives, power plant and distributor. I currently have it fitted with the Guardian Plasma Charger and two engineered lightweight Pulse Lasers. Probably under-gunned. The strengths of the Courier are it's speed ad maneuverability. These factors allow you to dictate the fight. ad if things start to go pear-shaped 3 pips to engine means that the Brave Sir Robin tactic is always available. Whilst the Courier can be built to tank, I would keep it light and fast. This ship loves to be flown and goodness it is fun when you drop onto the tail of your target and stick there in a classic dogfight battering it into submission and blowing through the explosion.

I took part in the Combat CG tonight, my first in a very long time. Even when mugged by 4 enemies, boosting away gets you out of range in seconds. 1.88 million in an hour or so and I am rubbish at combat.

I have the Chieftain, and in combat I prefer the Courier. So much so that I bought 2.
