Any Tips Please

Hi I just upgraded to premium beta today, I initially pre-ordered the game ( Gamma) and then I purchased the expansion pass, today I gave in and stumped up the extra £30 for premium beta access,

I must say I really am enjoying the game it is very eye pleasing and the sounds are really nice, the gameplay is really good too, the problem I have is probably config setup maybe, on the single player I got to mission 4 I can take out 1 ship quite easy but then the other 3 just out manoeuvre me, I tried playing around with the settings yaw pitch roll thruster etc but I can seem to get it right, I did watch zeewolf video as he turns on and off flight assist.

what it feels like to me that on turning circle of the ship is really slow, so I am constantly being shot from the rear.

I forgot to mention, I am using a gamepad or keyboard

Any advice or help please?

It is very important to remember - turning is fastest one when you are middle of your speed - around 70 - 80 m/s. Also don't try to out turn them - take some healthy distance and try to nail them one by one. It is important when they jump into system to rush towards them and get at least one out before they can regroup.

Look for the blue marks just to the left of the throttle indicator on your cockpit dashboard. That's your turning sweet spot, so if you try to keep your speed alongside those marks you'll be at your most manouverable.

Also, if you get locked into a circling pattern with the enemy, point forward, open up the throttle and hit boost, then throttle down to the sweet spot and turn to face when you've got some distance on him.

When you say "turn" do you mean "yaw", similar to a steering wheel in a car's effect?

That has been deliberately weakened to make for more interesting gameplay (which some dispute). You should try rolling, as in left wing down, right wing up and pitching to turn.

I spent an age in the barrel scenario trying to describe circles around a target and keep it in the crosshairs. I mean ages and ages. I'm still rubbish, but have more of a feel for how the thrusters interact with each other.

If the NPCs start to joust, drop down while flipping over (pitch) while they are some way off. You can keep them in sight if you get it right.

I made a quick and dirty vid to show how easy Recon Wing is.

Sorry no sound, I was recording the wrong output.

My usual strategy on this one was to put full pips to weapons and once the shields are down one missile will finish them off. Truth be told its pretty easy to kill them using no missiles.

If you are getting attacked put shields on to four pips, you'll need to switch them back to weapons so your lasers don't overheat so easily when you attack.

wow thanks for all the quick replies, yeah I managed to setup my joypad with left analog stick pitch and roll right analog stick yaw, and I looked for the blue dots, wow it makes a difference I did recon wing first time, this game is going to be amazing :)

I have the system, weapon, engine and reset also set to my controller and flight assist, which makes turning it on and off really easy and then its super simple to switch the ships systems as well. :)

haha yep got it all sorted now voice attack works well I just have to get a better mic, the only word it cant really understand me saying is the word "boost" it must be my british accent lol

@ Amos run through the windows speech thing ,dictate a letter and use any words that it has probs recognising ,it will learn them pretty well :)

ok found it thanks will train the voice recog a few more time got myself a new headset too so that should help, thanks alot for all the help :):D:D:D:D:)

Don't worry for every one of him there's someone like me who's still stumbling around in general incompetence. I've got the general hang of making my ship go where I want it to go and balancing my speed into the sweet spot for optimal turning. I've somewhat got the hang of tweaking power on the fly, but I'm still dying horribly on this mission. I'm dying less quickly to be sure but once I get to the point of killing the second fighter the other two will kill me fairly comprehensively. I tried the full power + boost away, but I seem to die more quickly when I do that as they fall in behind me and cut me down.

I watched Cosmos video a few times and I've picked up a few things I'll try next time like switching targets more freely rather than fixating only on one until it dies, and toggling flight assist off for a tighter turn. Anyway it gives me something to practice when I get bored of Titanfall :eek:
