Newcomer / Intro Any way to find out where I started ? need to go 300 LY for Engineers unlock

Have You started on a space outpost or at the ground base?

If you started in space, it was LHS 3447. If it was a ground base, then Asellus Primus.

LHS 3447 sounds right.

Thanks.

Is 300 LY kind of an exploration distance u need to prepare a lot for ? Plot scoopable stars and such ?

Fit a fuel scoop, pick a random direction, and just keep going til you are at least 300Ly out. You'll see it listed on your status panel. Hopefully you'll find some interesting stuff on the way!

Plotting a scoopable route is really only important in ships with only a couple of jumps available - but it never hurts to check star types and plan ahead!

You're 4700LY from your start? Easy - look in the direction of the bubble on the galaxy map, do a 180 and keep going that way. At 4700LY, where int he bubble you started doesn't really matter - just go away from it.

Z...

Edit - whoops - thought you were trying to unlock Palin...

No.

Just be aware that 75% (approx.) are non-scoopable stars such as red dwarfs or brown dwarf sub-stellar objects. These are not scoopable stars in the main sequence. (But with so many stars in our Milky Way that leaves plenty of stars you can scoop).

My advice is never let your tanks get too dry. If needs be divert from your plotted course (check the galaxy map) to find scoopable stars close to your route.

Don't get to the stage where you are bottle-necked and can't jump to a suitable star; if you do it will be either time to call the Fuel Rats for help or send yourself to the self-destruct button. (When I first started playing this game I hamstrung myself for jump range a couple of times and ended up having to sui-Sidewinder).

I've been doing 400LY+ runs from Sothis and my T6 Irene has a habit of picking routes back to the Bubble through non-scoopable star fields. (I reckon my ships' computers have personalities). Tanks low? Time to divert..........

You're 4700LY from your start? .

What? Sorry; that's not how I read the OP's question.

If you are wanting to meet Elvira, you also want to take her 3 Soontil Relics. Ngurii, where you buy the relics is 218ly from LHS 3447. So I suggest head to Ngurii, pick up some relics and keep going outwards for a few more jumps. Then head to Khun to see Elvira.

Not sure where I started. I don't see any way to view my history.
Thank You

Do a run out to Sothis - haul some biowaste back into the bubble - sorted.... a few million in the bank AND you will have gone more than 300Ly from your start system.

If you do this remember to take a fuel scoop - and if you have never used a scoop do a bit of practise using it before you travel far.
As for scoopable stars remember the acronym KGB FOAM - star types of K,G,B & F, O, A, M are all scoopable. If you have less than 25% fuel left check your route and see if you can reach a scoopable star - if not plot a course to the nearest one and then, once you have filled up, reset your route back.

In the statistics tab (right screen, first tab, last sub-tab) you can see your 'max distance from start' or something. Use that to see if you're close to unlocking the engineer. Start is LHS3447 for non-horizon, and Asellus Primus for Horizon cmdrs.

IIRC Martuuk wanted 300 LY and Farseer wanted Meta Alloys. Meta Alloys can be found in the Pleiades Nebula, which coincidentally is 300 LY out.

So I bought a DBX with an SRV, fuel scoop, ADS and a bit of cargo space, and headed out on what I considered to be a dry run for future exploration trips. I was a bit nervous, having never traveled more than a few jumps to a destination, but it was easy. No problems with endless unscoopable stars.

Check your statistics for the total distance from start on the right hand panel. You can also check to see if this requirement has been unlocked on the same panel, engineers tab at the bottom. Martuuk didn't unlock at exactly 300 LY so I added a couple of jumps over 300 and then it unlocked.

You can also sell your exploration data to both engineers to build rep, after they have been unlocked.
