Any way to listen to the music while playing the game?

I do a lot of exploring in ED/H, but the soundtrack always fades out when jumping from system to system, and when going on long runs trying to reach a distant location, I have to provide my own soundtrack if I want to listen to music while on route.

From a game-play perspective, I can see why this atmospheric music design decision was made, but if you're doing a lot of jumping from system to system, it unfortunately means you're not listening to the great music soundtrack this game has to offer, which I find somewhat ironic and unfortunate.

It's up on YouTube, or at least some of it, but I'll likely just end up having to buy it for myself and rip it to my collection. (I have a weird phobia of digital music I haven't ripped at 320kbps myself to the point where I don't use digital downloads of music at all, even if they come free with a CD, or similar.) Hope they have the newer stuff from planetside available too.

I love the music of the game, but hate how it fades in and out, in and out; so I tend just to listen to stuff on the You Tube.
I love "epic music", such as this:

Yeah, I do similar. I don't mind streaming lesser quality music so much as I feel less committed to it. If it goes on the hard drive and backup drives, it has to be top quality though.

I just found it kind of funny that I actually just wanted to listen to the game's soundtrack while playing the game, so I ended up looking for it on YouTube. [blah]

I tend to have Spotify on in the background.

Code:

For Combat: spotify:user:chrpskwk:playlist:4QaWSqZf2aOknYTMOwaSeJ

I use Spotify with "Toastify" - you can setup control keys to change songs etc without alt tabbing.

Works fine. Ive got CTRL and arrow keys set up.

If you have a lot of music on your computer than fire up media player click music and then shuffle .. that's what I do and I hear stuff I didn't even know I have :)

Any easy solution to do (IF you use Steam) is to have the overlay enabled and you can just have a YouTube playlist or Spotify open in the web browser tab. It's easy since you don't have to constantly alt-tab out of the game window and the overlay is transparent.

Good ol shift tab for me brings up the steam overlay. I have music playing thru the built in player or streaming thru the browser! Easy to access eddb.io and inara.cz as well.

Recommend the G19 app found here in the Player Apps section of the forum. Excellent tool for music along with a wealth of other aspects!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Gives me a bit more to choose from and how to go about listening to it that I hadn't really looked into before. [up]

Cheers.

also the inara.cz radio station has quite alot of selections , good amount and differing genres for all tastes.

I swap between my own collection, Inara feed, and more recently an embiggening Youtube playlist. Lots of nice long-term genre mixes on YT.

For those who aren't aware there is a music player in Steam and it can play soundtracks. If you haven't installed elite via steam, simply add as a third-party game to get access to the overlay and Steam controlls.

Queue up the elite soundtrack (assuming you have this) and mute in-game music. You have all the control you need from the overlay.

Enjoy.

I always still listen to the default game music. Its just seems very appropriate. I do wish they'd maybe mix in a couple new "travelling" tunes. Also, not a fan of the planetary music. It sounds like the cat's walking around on the piano again. I'd like something more adventury.
