Any way to play the game lying down?

tl;dr: Does anyone know of a way to get Elite:Dangerous to, in the Vive, to render such that I can see the normal cockpit view while laying on my back?

I get tired of sitting in chairs, sometimes I just want to lay down. But while laying down, what if I could stare off into the stars of E:D, or slowly putt-putt my way to scan another tiny ice rock in some system no one else will probably visit for 10 years? It would be nice. Except that the Vive + E:D seems hellbent on the floor being in the direction of gravity; anything else be damned. I've tried rotating the lighthouses, just using one lighthouse, doing standing and sitting room setups; nothing works. Whenever I fire up E:D, even if I launch it with the HMD facing the ceiling, the game continues to draw my cockpit with the floor of said cockpit on the floor of my room. In order for me laying on my back to work, I'd need the game to actually use one of my walls as the 'floor'.

Fundamentally the change is relatively simple (though it may not be simple in your game engine), you just swap the Y and Z axes with each other, the X axis can remain as it is.

Anyway, does anyone know some trick to get this to work?

I think the Rift and Vive headsets are fixed to have the floor set as the in-game floor.

Resetting the viewpoint won't work. You could configure the controls easily enough, but I don't think the headsets will play nicely. The inbuilt gyroscopes will always tell the Rift/Vive which way is up/down etc, which is probably why moving the lighthouses didn't work (good idea though!).

Can you get comfy in a nicely reclined position (floor with cushions etc, and while away some time in the stars outside your ship that way?
In some ways, ED could be good for meditation if set up like that with the external camera etc!

I wonder if you can't boot the HMD orientation sensors' (gyroscopes, etc.) data through Opentrack. It definitely supports the funcationality - I use it on my phone's sensors.

I figured out a way to do this when I had the flu.

Play Elite in SBS mode. Use Bigscreen, lay down with a controller, orient the screen in front of you, a bit curved, fiddle with it until you get a nice view. Turn the 3D on. Play until not feeling poorly. You won't have headtracking in the game so you'll need to map the UI to the pad xbox style, but it wouldn't be very comfortable if you could anyway!
