Any women?

HI all,

I bet its been in another thread but I was wondering if their are any women out there who play ED? (but not in a stalker kind of way! lol)

I know that I the early 80's I hardly came across any women/girls that had home computers or who played computer games (the computer club I attended in the early 80's was all male.) Ever since then gaming, whether on pc or console, has seemed to be a male orientated phenomena.

But I think its changing - a friend of mine who is female (married with kids) has a whale of a time on her xbox playing FPS like battlefield, etc.. She cant be the only women who enjoys gaming (and I don't mean cute games on a Wii!)

Don't get me wrong I aint staring a debate on women and gaming, just think its interesting to see if any females are enjoying this great game!

Cheers,

Simon

Yes there are women playing E: D (including me) - and yes there have been other threads including one centring around merchandise. Have a search around.

Yes there are, but online gaming being what it still is, a huge amount won't admit to it. :(

Yeah... in my Counter-Strike phase, whenever someone turned out to be a female (especially via voice chat), other players started hounding and insulting her. It was embarassing. That kind of childish, misogynistic and downright sociopathic behavior eventually made me stop playing the game. I stopped playing multiplayer altogether, in fact. I was sick of that human cesspool.

Not quite the right choice of words. "Won't advertise it" is more correct.

And why would they? I don't like to be stereotyped either, so I in general choose not to tick any gender box. Here my avatar picture kind of gives me away, of course.

There IS another thread (at least one certainly) so you're right ;)

There are a good few on here although some don't publicly state this for various reasons (some of which would be obvious).... They are out there that's for certain :)

On a side note not specific to ED, I was at the Barbican last night for "In Conversation: Gaming" which was a panel talk. The only males on the panel were the moderator, and one other game designer (Mike Bithell) - three of the panel were women (Katherine Bidwell, Jo Twist and Anna Marsh) talking very seriously about gaming.

Fortunately seems like the ED community is pretty mature and would welcome female players without any issue.

Except pirates.... I can already hear the jokes

There will be some girls obviously, but gaming and gaming forums would probably be way down on the list of places to meet woman.

For whatever reason gaming has become more popular with girls, same with football, look at the crowds, theres loads now, where in the 80s you would be hard pushed to spot a girl in the crowd.

Not sure what has changed, more woman watch football and play games now, more men get fake tans, body waxes and whatever else now.

Its like we are switching places :)
