Anybody else exploring with mouse+keyboard?

I think mouse and keyboard are most comfortable for the slow-paced gameplay, and therefore I'm not planning to buy HOTAS. On the other hand, I acquired a cheap controller that I might try when I'll get back to the bubble as I am very weak in dogfighting - I guess the controls are partly responsible.

Am I alone with this notion?

Not alone! It works well enough and if you are used to it and strictly want to stick with exploration I don't see any necessity in getting HOTAS. I haven't been destroyed by NPC in ages and have not have to run out from another player yet. I can't do a thing in CQC though, so for now have given up on that completely. :<

I have had chance to test my bf's X52-Pro and I do admit it is enjoyable. Financial situation permitting I'll get one too, but keyboard upgrade is first on the list. *sigh*

Xbox controller/mouse and keyboard combo here, and I'm using voice attack macros.. Lots of room for macro functions (I don't like speaking to my PCs I just look plain weird).
Works for me and if I need a bit of pewpew the Xbox controller works beautifully.

For some reason, my BT isn't working properly, and an additional dongle didn't help either.
So I've ordered a cheapo wired controller on Aliexpress.

I think I will buy a low-cost fighter once I'm back and train on that.

I tried with Keyboard and mouse and failed - I'm currently using an ancient saitek p750 controller but have just bought a CH fighter stick and have some plans using some other stuff (http://www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94&products_id=204) to make up some pedals and other buttons (and possibly throttle.).

That looks too scientific for me. :)

Initally it was weird (I'm a PlayStation fugitive, so I have little experience with playing anything else than a controller or steering wheel), but after a while it became easy to fly with ease and precision. Wild turns and assist off are completely different though, so I hope the controller will sort that out.

I use keyboard and mouse and I think you do just as fine with those, but the HOTAS looks badass. I think it'd be more beneficial immersion wise. I'd love to combine that with an Oculus, but then I'd have to stop eating for a long time to afford it.

I did 15 years of WWII fighter sims, I tried the keyboard, and it did not have the reaction time of a stick.
Im starting off in an eagle to learn the turn & burn aspects of the game, but will end up in a Viper Mk3 for its zoom & boom capabilities.
For turn & burn I could not see using the keyboard, maybe zoom & boom, but slower paced stuff like exploration and space trucking, might be ok keyboarding, I want every advantage when dog fighting.

sometimes, if exploring, mouse and keyboard. sometimes controller. in bubble always hotas. but FAOFF-only sessions with a controller...

I've tried with KB + Mouse (my only option on the Mac) and I find it really awkward, but I manage... slowly.

I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS-X for the PC, which is quite cheap and works very well. Recommended if you're looking for a HOTAS on a budget.

I'd find it very strange to fly with anything else.

I could wish for slightly better control of the lateral thrusters, and it's difficult to hold steady with flight assist off, but those are things I can work round.

I tried mouse and keyboard when I first played in gamma. I did not like it at all. Dug out an old Microsoft Sidewinder and I've been flying with that ever since.

Keyboard and mouse here too. Thought about a joystick of some sort but put off by the cost and the throttle....i actually like the digital throttle control for the ship.

When I land, however.....I slide over the G25 wheel to control the SRV.

I tried using just the mouse and keyboard and couldn't do it. I am now using mouse, keyboard and the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro flight stick.

Currently using M&K because my X52 is still in "storage" since I haven't had time for the game the last months.
I should get it out again though, judging from the rate I crash into stars while scooping, I'm not very good with M&K and I still have a some 15k LY to go...
