Anybody going to sell their DK2 now and go riftless until release?

It seems right now they are going for about £300 on ebay. That will almost certainly go down. In theory, could get the CV1 for ~£200, but it will mean going riftless for 3-5 months....is it worth it?

I think Im gonna stick with my DK2, nothing wrong with it, and I dont care too much for the CV1 :)

(Also I want to do distant worlds a little bit with the rift)

Future SDK releases will continue to support DK2. With that in mind, I will demote DK2 just like I always demote equipment and wind up with a 2nd VR station for the girlfriend or company to use.

I have developed a personal attachment to my Rift, I call her Sheila. I could not allow her in good conscience to be placed on a strangers head. :p
That is all... :D

Suit yourselves guys. I actually have a friend who has barely touched his since he got it. If I can get him to lend me his, I can sell mine without worry :D

p.s. Items:Oculus Rift(£499.00 ) x 1 = £499.00
Taxes,Surcharges and Fees: Applicableshipping, taxes and duties will be added to and charged in your payment uponshipment of the unit.
Order Total: £529.00
That line bothers me...

Don't forget eBay 10% fee and PayPal 3.5% fee

Also shipping clocked in at 18 quid and eBay only let me charge 7.50

Still I can't grumble. I cleared almost 250 quid.

I have no regrets selling my 2 DK2s on ebay at the end of December last year, i have had wonderful experiances of ED in the DK2 (apart from the dismal implemention of trying to work in the galaxy map in the DK2, hope you fix this for future VR FD) i dont mind waiting until i get my CV1 in May, and if FD dont support the CV1 i will cancel my order. My main concern was how much the CV1 would cost, now that i know i am very glad i sold my DK2s to pay for the new tech i sold my first DK2 for £260 and my second DK2 for £400 on ebay and am very happy. I do not like steam so will not be buying the Vive.

Unless you 'really' need the money from selling your DK2 now to fund the purchase a CV1 pre-order - I wouldn't sell the DK2.

2-3 months without VR would be bad enough, but what if....... CV1 ends up unsupported for ED after all (so you end up selling it/cancelling the order), or the HTC Vive is delayed again, or the Vive price is a lot more than you thought, or you find that the hardware required by your pc for CV1/vive to run smoothly is more than you first thought (when I had a go on the vive at EGX, the pc was running a titan GPU setup - they ain't cheap). There are still a lot of "if's".

At the end of the day - the DK2 works now without 'massive' hardware requirements and will likely do so for the forseeable future.

As for DK2 e*ay prices - I paid £300 back in Jan 2015 for a 2nd hand one. I could still get that price now as the demand is still there. The price of the CV1 is more than many people thought it would be (as can be seen in the many posts on this forum) so newbies may opt for a DK2 instead - driving up demand and keeping prices high. The vive looks to be a more technological set-up (compared to CV1) from what I've read online so I can't see how Vive will be cheaper than the CV1 when its released (I predict it will be a fair bit higher than the CV1).

VR is a new concept for the mass consumer market and is a niche market at present.
I doubt that VR prices will suddenly drop anytime soon - why should they (especially if you need a reasonably powerful pc + hardware to run it). Many newbie VR people may be put off the CV1/vive because of the price/hardware requirements. This in itself will keep DK2 prices high for a long while yet as newbies jump on the bandwagon so it could cost you as much (or more) if you decided to buy back a DK2 in the future - compared to if you were to sell it now.

Just my own thoughts on the subject - others may disagree.

I really can't play without DK2, so I figure I'll keep mine until my CV1 ships in March. Due to the higher than expected costs, I think the DK2 will still hold some of its value.

I couldn't sell the DK2. I've still got the DK1 also, but they're things I hold dear - I'd never part with them. (although my son will inherit ('get to use') the DK2 for ED once the CV1 arrives).

Sold mine 2 days after Xmas. Got upwards of $400 for it. Glad in away that I sold when I did, but also sad because I won't play E D until the CV1 arrives even though I have an EDtracker and 27" monitor. It's simply not the same as VR. I believe Elite will support the CV1 by the time we get them or soon after. If not, I'll quit playing. After being bit by the VR bug, the VR experience itself is more fun for me than the game in this case. At least I'll have a free copy of EVE which I probably never would have tried otherwise. Held off on purchasing Horizons until I know if it will be supported with the CV1 so I'll lose no more in the worst case scenario.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing. Especially with multi-crew coming up. My girlfriend is actually hyped at the idea, and I won't feel so guilty when playing ED (and not sharing time with her). Win-win if you ask me!!
DK2 stays!!

I did that with DK1 - actually sold it for more than it cost. And I sold the TF2 hat code too! ;)

But I think I'll keep the DK2 until I get CV1. I think the DK2 will hold value due to the queue for CV1 and because some people will only want to pay DK2 level and not CV1 level. Probably lose something but not enough to be without it for a few months. :)

Already sold my DK2 back in October for this reason - after which I realized that 3440x1440 IPS 34" is a step down..

(Although I did run into some ergo issues with my x52 pro and the rift - taking a break has resolved that..)

Sold my Rift at what I would call the 'peak' of the aftermarket price rise last month for C$750 (or US$530 or 360 quid, depending on where you live), which I am very thankful for now as it has helped subsidize a portion of CV1. Without having sold it, frankly I'm not sure how I could justify the purchase (even though I would buy it anyways :p).

Hell no! I love my DK2. I wouldn't play ED without it.

I have ordered the CV1 but I won't be selling the DK2 (or giving it away) until I have a superior functioning HMD.

There is still some question mark over just how much support the CV1 will have in ED. Frontier have been pretty vague about this saying pretty much "we are working closely with Oculus" but there is a lot more commitment being shown for the Vive. The latter being evident by the Frontier statement that the Vive will be fully supported in ED on launch day. As far as I'm aware they have not shown as much enthusiasm for the CV1. Reading between the lines it seems they are have not yet received the 1.0 SDK on which they can do proper development with.
