Anybody use a MS Sidewinder 2?

Please share you bindings for this joystick... Esp thrust and throttle!
My settings seem a muddle at this point.

Many Thanks!

I use an MS Sidewinder FF Precision 2 (old faithful, operational for 14 years) but only for the stick.. I use a separate throttle for the rest. For the stick I just use the default settings with no issues.

I use the hat switch for L/R/U/D thrusters. Then bind head look directions as secondary options on the hat switch too. I use one of the thumb buttons to activate headlook mode.

That way I can thrust about with the hat switch when I'm not moving the pilots head about.

You might want to apply a small amount of dead zone on the throttle axis itself as it can be sensitive. Don't forget there are seperate bindings for landing, so you can apply more dead zone for tricky pad landings.

It's a good stick & I haven't felt the need to upgrade since Alpha 1. If you run out of buttons you might want to look at voice attack for some extra voice activated bindings.

Only joystick I've ever owned for PC, love it.

I personally don't bind any thrust or throttle settings to mine, the throttle was removed after a few unfortunate incidents docking where I'd forgotten to zero it.

I keep my keyboard close than have Thrusters mapped to QWEASD (EQ are forward and backwards), then have throttle incriments mapped to `-4 (only really used in supercruise). I have never found the need for fine throttle control. (F1-4 are then for capacitor management so everything is close by for combat)

For the joystick 1-Fire ; 2- Fire (sec) ; 3- target fwd ; 4- change fire group ; HAT cycling targets/subsystems. 5 Deploy hardpoints, 7 shield cell banks.

Same here, they're sturdy little things.

My bindings :
1 + 2 - Primary + Secondary fire
3 - Target ahead (complex targeting all bound on QWEASDF)
4 - Boost
5 - Pips to Weapons
6 - Pips to Engines
7 - Pips to shields
Hat is used for directional thrusters

8 is used as a modifier, so:
8 + 7 - Reset Pips
8 + 4 - Flight Assist on/off
8 + 2 - Center View
8 + Hat - headlook (I have it switched on all the time)

Throttle is set to full range with a very small deadzone in the middle (otherwise landing is a pain).

Stuff like firegroups, chaff/cells/heatsinks and various throttle settings are all on easy to reach key bindings.
