anyone disappointed about the full roster of animals ?

I mean, some very famous animals like kangaroo for example are missing. It seems that most of the animals are the very well known animals from Africa, but it lacks of animals from other continents.
I wanted to build a zoo per continent, using animals that lives in each continent, but it seems that's not really possible, unless you want a very crowded zoo in Africa, and empty ones in other continents.

I'm quite disappointed about this :(

Especially when I know that they gonna make us pay for those essential animals in DLC. I would understand for like water animals for example, some theme packs or whatever. But the fact that we didn't have the full list of animals before launch, and that so many essential animals are missing, looks like a scam to me :/

I am not dissapointed per se, as I am quite happy about included lesser know animals such as aardvarks, pangolins or gharials, buut yes I was expecting at least these 4 animals: jaguar, polar bear, kangaroo and penguin.

Also I am not too happy about having 2 brown bear species and 2 tigers which look way too similar. Yes, yes I know they habitat have to be very different but... I would rather have jaguar than 2 visually same tigers.

But overall the development team did amazing job with the animals!

Nope, I’m more than happy with the list of animals. I think their plan for introducing more animals will be much like PC with how they introduced coasters. Gradually.
Personally, I would feel overwhelmed if they introduced a load more animals.

Sounds a bit ungrateful.. Also I don't think a kangaroo is essential (would love to see it in-game)
Actually a lot of zoos don't have them.

A lot of people have made topics 'Why isn't my favorite animal in this game?'.. You can't cater to every need..

Quite happy with the animals we have, they did a great job !
Agreed, African animals are very dominant in the roster.

While other zoo games might have had more continent diversity at launch.
They only had 30-40 animals at launch, we got a lot more.

I somwhat agree with the multiple species bears, tortoises or tigers..
Personally I would've picked 1 tiger or 1 bear and add 2 different species in those slots.
But quite a few people are happy with the multiple species.

I think it's a bit too soon to complain about paying for DLC.. We don't know when DLC will arrive.
Some people mentioned that PC also got a free stuff later on..

Far more animals than I expected at launch and everyone has there favorites, I would rather have the game now than in 6-12 months time to fit in the most popular suggestions. I do wonder how difficult the movement of Kangeroo's would be to get correct.

Don't like DLC, don't buy it. The game is fantastic without and no one has a gun to your head.

I think the roster is huge and all the animals are super cool, and I’m pretty happy with it.

Buuut I have to agree that there’s waaaaaay to many African animals. Like I get it, Africa is cool, and a Australian DLC is surely being made; but there’s more places in the world than the Savannah and the rainforest.

Still happy with it, but I will be more happy with the future DLC.

I'm happy with the roster of animals. Yes, would liked to have more diversity, but there is so much more that can be added to the game.

I'm more keen on a fish-update. I want to recreate my local zoo Blijdorp, but then I still need this somehow:

Not at all!

I think this original lineup is fantastic - we have a lot of iconic species (lions, gorillas, Indian and African elephants, flamingoes, chimps, etc) and some wonderful unexpected inclusions (red ruffed lemurs, gharial, Nyala). There are so many more species than I thought we would have, which is impressive.

The great thing about Planet Zoo is that they can keep adding animals forever - there are so many brilliant animals out there, there’ll never be enough in game! I understand that some people hate DLC, but I personally love it. I’m happy to pay for future animal inclusions that are fully finished, animated beautiful models that have had time dedicated to their creation. It keeps the game fresh and fun to have new little additions for us to purchase when we can and if we want to.

Definitely looking forward to future DLC - especially once social interactions are implemented - but I’m super satisfied and very happy with the animals we have on release. Hopefully future DLCs stay a little clear of African wildlife for a bit though, Africa is quite well covered so far!

To give an indication I have just added up how many different animals for each continent, the Flamingo, Crocodile and Wolf were spread across different areas so I counted for each and central America I added onto South America.

Africa: 34
Asia: 20
South America: 14
Oceania: 4
Europe: 2

As I go on Safari in Africa every year I am very happy with this :)

Especially since the animals subscribe to the live fast and die faster philosophy.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see how many starter animals we do have. I have no problem at all waiting for some new ones as paid DLC in the future. I won some Steam money from MSI (just $36 but still!) for a review I wrote about the graphics card I bought just for this game and it's earmarked just for PZ DLC. I'm almost overwhelmed with everything we have to work with right from day 1 so, no, I'm not feeling like I'm missing anything at all. I think watching kangaroos hop around would be great fun, and I'm sure we will get to see that in time.

Interesting, nobody has mentioned what (for me) is the greatest problem with the lineup - all the ruddy antelope types! There are so many which are not massively differential and I do understand that it is easier to repaint an already made model and behaviour than to make a whole new animals but I would trade 5 antelope/gazelle for 1 more interesting animal - this would also solve/alleviate the Africa-centric issue discussed in the OP. The starting set is decent overall however and I have faith it will only improve with time - looking at Frontier's record with JWE and PC, animal packs will be relatively frequent which is certainly a good thing, and gives me hope for the future.

I liked the list, so far. And, if you have ever dealt with Frontier, you know they like their DLC. So, dont worry too much. Im sure for 14.99$ you'll get a pack of new animals soon enough. ;)

Of course I'm disappointed that my favorite animals aren't in the game but its not a big issue. More animals will come. Just have patience, leave your feedback and try to enjoy what we have for now.

Clearly the day 1 release has been focused around an African theme, they can't include everything and it's reasonable to expect some creatures take extra work to implement in game. Given the threads in the animal requests forum, it seems Frontier would have had to include 100s of them at release to keep everyone happy! There's a decent selection for now and I have no issue with any possible theme pack DLCs coming in the future. Also how is it a scam exactly if you've ordered before knowing what animals are included and what you define as essential others may not?

I think the animal list is incredible tbh. I was suprised at the animals we got i wont complain till my zoo has everyone of them in it. An tbh ive played 12 hours and have only 2 animals lol.

I think alot of animals are more inclined for DLC that have not been included.

A scam... 🤦

Going to point out some stuff I thought would be obvious:

1. Kangaroos would require their own unique programming for how they move, since they bounce rather than walk or run. While the other animals would all use the same inverse kinematic system for navigation, it makes sense for launch they wouldn't put time or money into a unique movement system for just one animal.

2. Same thing with polar bears and penguins. Would you really be happy if they only swam on the surface of the water? People already are complaining about Crocs and hippos not diving, which is a system they clearly haven't implemented yet. But at least crocodiles and hippos do linger on the surface irl, so still is acceptable. Diving mechanics probably couldn't be programmed in for launch, hence why polar bears and penguins would have to come later.

3. For people talking about the double brown bears, tigers, tortoises etc... We don't know the order in which animals were chosen for the game. It's very possible they were added into the roster last minute. Perhaps they didn't have time to make completey new models/rigs, but still wanted to give people a few more choices in animals, so they made a few "reskin" choices for that reason.

All in all I'm really annoyed with how many people are throwing grief over the roster. In comparison ZT2 had about 30 animals at launch. We got more than double that. How can you not be anything but grateful?

Plus having animals like aardvarks and pangolins over "basic zoo animals" makes the game feel more unique, rather than just getting the "default zoo animals".

I'm slightly disappointed in the amount of North American animals. I was hoping at least for an Elk to pair with my American Bison but for the most part I've thoroughly enjoyed the animals in the game.
