Anyone else actually use reinforced alloys over military grade?

I do. My Cobra counts on speed as its defense. So the reinforced alloys serve as a middle ground between armour and jump range.

I used to but like C-grade modules I find it's neither strong enough to be effective nor light enough for speed so I tend to go for military on everything not dedicated to PvP.

Don't think I've ever found a use for mirrored tbh.

I go a step further. I retained the default lightweight bulkheads and then engineered them to just Grade 1 Heavy Duty. No mass penalty and more than enough amour rating to withdraw from an engagement to recharge shields if they go down. Also added a similarly modded Class 1 HRP, bringing my total amour rating to 704 in the Chieftain - plenty for the meagre mass cost of 1.14T for the modded HRP.

Of course, good reinforced shields and boosters help - but the mass gain was minimal there too.

The speed result: 385 cruise, 550 boost and just over 30 LY jump range. Sorry, must dash!

I used to, until I realised you can get slightly more hitpoints simply by used G5 heavy duty on stock lightweight armour

Grade 5 will also give you no mass penalty either. +30% mass on zero equals zero.

As part of a progression - yes. When engineering a new ship, I save G5DD for second to last, followed by MGA. Reinforced gives some temporary protection until everything else is geared up.

Depending on the ship and its intended purpose, yes.

For a high-speed ship, no.
For a dedicated warship, no.
For something that might need to take a hit or maybe return fire, sure.

The military/reactive/mirrored cohort of bulkheads generally offer the worst mass-to-hp ratio of any defensive module in the game.

Hence for my PvP builds whether I use them over the lightweight or reinforced options depends entirely upon two variables, per build:

(A) Extent to which mass matters (if at all);

(B) Extent to which I intend to fight unshielded (if at all).

Indeed, but I have only Liz Ryder's G1 armour, as Selene Jean wants me to mine 500 tonnes of ore to access her higher grades. Sorry, that's not my thing and I've learned to be satisfied with the protection of G1. :)

Pretty much been said already - but I also use it on ships where changes in mass don't affect their speed. (Or at least only is trivial)

The Clipper with its insanely high optimal mass size 6 engines doesn't really care about the addition in mass. :D
