Horizons Anyone else been 'skiing' in their SRV yet?

If you've tried driving around on an icy planet you'll have noticed how much the SRV slides about, especially on low-grav bodies with lumpy bits, meaning you're often having to counter-steer to keep going in roughly the right direction much like rally drivers do, it's a lot of fun once you get the hang of it.

So as a keen snow-boarder I thought I'd take my SRV 'off-piste' to see how well it could ski - found a nice steep canyon on some system near Alioth and jumped over the edge, it was a blast! Probably 15 minutes of the most fun I've had in a game, steep enough to be constantly at top speed, largely in control, and not too many crevices so I could 'carve' to the the bottom, which turned out to be very dark and misty, spooky even.

Recommended, although I think it needs to be done on a relatively high gravity ice-planet (which are few and far between) otherwise you just bounce around.

I'll have another go and try and do a video or some screenies next time.

Yes just love the way the SRV slides about on the icy worlds and you want to just try going back up those same hills dam night mare
but just love it will hope to do a bit of base jumping with it later...:D

Yep down the side of a mountain and into a ravine, leaving me with 6% hull and under fire.
Handbrake and shields was no help to stop or stopping damage.

I was in exactly the same predicament going down fast, hitting rock , flying up in to the air. Near the bottom I bounced really high, tumbling, noticed hull at 11%. I did a quick "On the fly" repair and saved it , as the bump I had was nasty and would have destroyed my SRV :)

During beta I decided exploring a canyon on an ice ball would be fun, until the slope turned past 40 deg and I was Ken Blocking it all the way to the bottom... took a few hours to get to a spot that my ship would come and get me.

Not intentionally. Perched my Cobra on a ledge on an icy slope, went for a trip, and ended up at the bottom of the canyon after an exillerating semi-controlled slide.

Yep just put her into to reverse and hope for the best...:D
