Anyone else getting this?

SOLVED: It was the new NVIDIA App causing the issues, not the Driver... Uninstalled the NVIDIA App and everything is ok again. Driver is the same as I was using before.

I’m using an Nvidia graphics card and since about a week ago I’m getting this:

Super, over-exposed graphics.

As the game boots up, the black loading screen steps up to a mid grey over ten seconds or so and all the colours seem to be at max saturation.

I have to fiddle around with various screen settings and it seems to settle down. But I can’t figure out how to get it back to normal.

I find myself wasting anywhere up to 15 minutes every game session trying to g to get the colours back to normal.

Does anyone else have this?

it’s not the Gamma settings (never changed). The black point (just visible left hand image) is still just barely visible. Problem is all the bright colors are 100% saturated.

Changing gamma down does not help. Just get darker but 100% saturated colours. lol.

It’s not the monitor. All other games Star Citizen, NMS, X4, Stellaris, Satisfactory all OK.

I deleted the graphics folder.

I reinstalled E:D.

I reinstalled Nvidia drivers.

You could try rolling back to an earlier, known good, driver version in order to verify the issue is software rather than hardware - or vice versa, of course.

Did you turn HDR on in Windows, or forget to turn off 'automatically manage color for apps' in the advanced display settings (if you have Windows 11)?

Regular monitors. Never touched HDR. But just in case I checked. It’s disabled.

It’s not the monitor because all the other games are OK and this game starts off OK but then the brightness ramps up over a few seconds after booting the game up. The black level just rises up and then all the colours get full saturated. Like I say, for the first few seconds everything’s OK but it basically Just goes crazy once the game starts up.

Open Task Manager, Performance tab, GPU and see what the temperature is doing. My 3090 goes from 42C to 64C when I run ED. If you're going to the upper bound of your GPU's limits it could be the problem.

Adjusting fan curves could help

At least one other :)

i would say your brighness looks waaaay to high on your tv/monitor... forget the bloom the black background looks grey!.

have you tried starting from scratch and recalibrating. that reminds me of when i was in windows 10 and was messing around with HDR. it seems much better in windows 11 but in windows 10 if i turned on HDR it totally destroy my non HDR content by blasting the brightness up. You say other games look ok. are they perhaps HDR supporting games ? maybe your screen is set up ok for those but not none HDR games?

that said, in elite the bloom around that loading screen is a little obnoxious on my screen too... but not that bad!.

HDR in windows 10 can be tweaked to look... fine... At least on my monitor, but it's not optimal. It's a lot easier to set up in windows 11.

But yeah it looks to me that the tv/monitor's brightness setting is too high. Try starting at 50 brightness and 50 contrast and adjust from there, maybe?

Not only have I started to get weird bloom/glancing in the direction of the local star brings biiiiig flare/lights in station docks are super aggressive... but also my sound is messed up. I can barely hear the computer assist over the noise of combat warn about overheating in the CG CZs.

I've had this happen with Win10 update replacing my Nvidia driver with their garbage version.
No amount of uninstalling/re-installing DDUing fixes it because the Windows video layer, or
whatever, seems to get stuck between two conflicting modes.
Only way I could fix it is as follows:

1. Make sure you do have your preferred driver installed and rebooted. Check that NVidia Control
Panel allows you to change the settings I circled. If they are greyed out you most likely have this issue.

2. Go into Settings > Display > Advanced Display Settings

3. Change the Refresh rate to something else and then back to what yours should be. I need 60hz
because it's a TV. This usually this fixes it right away and you can then set the NVidia Control Panel
to its full settings. If not try a reboot again.

Hope this helps.

Intersting... Checked 48 degrees C. 30% GPU usage goes up to about 45% usage and 50C after several hours use. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks. All my advanced controls are visible and operable.
I changed to 60Hz and then back to 120Hz (regular setting) but to no avail.. still super exposed...

SOLUTION:

Thanks for the ideas everyone much appreciated... Someone on discord asked me to uninstall the NVIDIA APP and NOT the driver then reinstall the driver alone...

It seems the APP manipulates the drivers and installs presets and "filters" looks like one of those filters was acting up.

Anyway, I'm back to the driver I was using in May and all is OK again!!!

Once again people, thanks for the feedback.

Argh, I forgot all about that crap App. I always install ONLY the Video+Audio+Physx drivers so it never even crossed my mind 😅

Glad you got it fixed CMDR.
