I'm having issues on planets. Last night on stream I visited the new spooky site Holloway Lab or something like that yesterday and I got extremely poor performance in places. I was with a few other commanders and there were a few ships around and the framerates tanked. Something is causing serious performance problems - My immediate thoughts were about texture memory and perhaps there's not enough for all of the suits, ships and long shadows (depending on how they're produced in engine) - so perhaps it's paging into and out of texture memory over the bus when it's trying to handle them, but I didn't profile it so I don't know for sure.
When I loaded into Solo to look at the data logs for the site, I got better performance, but even alone sometimes it dropped to 16 fps. I think there's something simple but fundamental going wrong. I run a 2080 super and I have 64gb of Ram so in many ways, I shouldn't be having these issues with this hardware, also I updated my Nvidia drivers last week to coincide with the Update 8 release to make sure they contained the latest fixes.
When the framerates dropped really low, the Camera suite button became SUPER laggy too - almost like the input was being handled on the UI thread.
The problem for me is that there doesn't seem to be a clear cause to the problems so I can't tweak my settings to mitigate them.
Oh and stations, Carriers and megaships loading in in pieces after you drop in from supercruise is seriously bad and needs resolving.
I'm hoping there will be a hotfix for this and/or that one of the engine devs has a Eureka moment in the shower before work one day and works out what's going wrong.
Performance in megaship interiors was good though.
I don't normally complain on the forums, I'm a happy go lucky person.. But this does need resolving and quickly.
