Anyone else is flying the realist ship that says the Horizons will not make it for Christmas release?

Will definitely be out before Xmas. Probably about the 16th December. There will still be a few bugs but I think a major release like this will be pretty stable.

It has to be released sufficiently before Christmas, ready or not, as a fortune in sales will be lost otherwise. 2.0x can be released after Christmas.

Delays happen all the time and while we in the industry hate to admit and often try to avoid it, compressing QA/test time is always the first to happen in a time crunch. Yes, there will be a smaller beta period, but such is the way things go when you have deadlines.

No no, "deciding to tart up the prototype proof of concept into the product" is the first thing we do, admit it :).

But then again, is the Christmas really that important window for sales? Because let's be honest, most of us have already pre-ordered Horizons, so they got our money and I dare say that the overhead that did not bought Horizons yet and will do so after the release is <10%. And the influx of completely new customers because of Horizons release would be <10% too.

No sorry OP I think you boarded the "cynical hope it fails" ship by mistake. The realist ship seems to be of the opinion that we'll have a game for Xmas, one that is hopefully not so bug laden it spoils our fun.

What a day already

It's barely after 9AM for me and already it's been one of those days. I posted a comment on /r/EliteDangerous and got a bunch of PCmaster race garbage. As if the lack of respect over our shared love of ED wasn't insult enough I got downvoted to hell by the same pinheads, I'm assuming.

Second, I got a tweet confirming Horizons in 2016 from David Braben or his assistant or whoever handles his twitter. The unfortunate thing is I never tweeted Mr. Braben and I've never asked about Horizons one time in any medium. :rolleyes: I tweeted @EliteDangerous trying to get a response to a completely different issue.

And here I thought Elite had one of the best communities in gaming. *smh

Getting out all the bugs is just wishful thinking, there's always bugs to be found.

I'm happy if the major ones are fixed.

This is really misleading and someone may take you up on it, it was posted in X1 section and obviously Horizons is indeed coming in 2016 to X1, that was known for a long time.

Forget it. They will hit the release date, even if the game is not Feature-complete. FD did it before, remember Gamma and all the Bugs we carried over to February...

Just give us the god damn game so we can play the .... out of it :D Patch it on the run. Like we use to do. We need to have something to do during Christmas. I want to explore distant moons and collect stuff. After 3 years with E.D I feel that Horizons is something new that will change the ballgame, and add depth and content to the game.

On the contrary. Showstopper bugs that make a core mechanic unplayable are blockers for beta and a legitimate reason to delay it, even at the cost of a reduced beta period. Bugs exposed in beta *might* be blockers for release, that's a judgement call for FD's release management team. They still have a target date for release and if there are no known issues that are internally considered to be blockers at that point they'll release it on that date. If during beta they have identified showstoppers for release that haven't been fixed by the target date then that target date will slip (and some programmer will likely be getting the stink-eye from product management) but that's why they don't announce a precise date until they have a (mostly) clean build with no known showstoppers. This is how software development works. Everywhere, in every industry.

Meh, when its ready they will release it. Or before its ready. I presume people will be just happy to get to try out the new content, whether its part of beta or post-release buggy version.

I checked with my psychic advisor and she said it'll release before christmas and be totally bug free and glorious!

Of course, she also told me I'd meet a tall handsome rich man who'd sweep me off my feet(I'm a hetero male) and win the lottery and be rich and happy for the rest of my life. Well, it's been a few years and no rich tall handsome man has shown up and I haven't won the lottery, but hey, she could be right about Horizons.....right?

They have already lost one sale .. I was going to buy this for a friend for his birthday, but was told that he cannot access the base game till Horizons drops. Still no firm release date so he wanted Battlefront instead. :(

They just can't compile something that would pass as an alpha yet? :) Yeah, they will release it and it will be bugly as hell. And then they'll fix it by spring, so no worries. Then by summer they will drop the price and it will be the time to buy it :)
