Anyone else like to imagine Dav's hope is a rally and regularly work on their lap times?

Maybe like 4 years ago. Did a few dozen rounds or something back then getting Engineered FSDs, and having some fun mucking around in an SRV.

But yeah, there probably is a racing group that's done it as well. Think I remember hearing that.

Ah, you see I'm a bit of a regular. I'm slightly addicted to engineering ships... got 31 of them now...

It is not a very efficient way to obtain manufactured materials. Same goes for Jamesons. I agree the race can be a fun challenge.

I was actually out there recently on my Alt Cmdr. But I'm not a racer at heart. I did my usual casual ride around the circle a few times, stopping at the data point to get whatever. It's relaxing for a bit ;)

I'm sure
What am I saying, I'm sure you do ;-) I suspect I'm an amateur compared to the real racers on this forum. It does make mat grinding a little more fun though :-D

Yes, me too :D
(When I needed to, I've engineered every ship I needed long ago ...)

I didn't Buckyball until long after they did the actual race, but while what they did was slightly different your time is very quick indeed:

There are other permanent time trials if you'd like something else to do with the Scarab !?! <nudge nudge>

I'll definitely look into those :) Yeh, I love driving the Scarab.

EDIT: Oh yeh, just saw that leaderboard, I'd have done ok on that, shame I missed it back in 2017.

I know right, you woulda been a contender!

Pomeche and Cortes are Scarab only time trials, the IronBucky is 1/3 srv and 2/3rds ship jumping and SC.

and just in case Buckyball discord:

and Elite Racers discord who are holding an srv flyving race next weekend if you know how to do that, (or come along and learn):

HGE farming is likely orders of magnitude faster.
It's faster if you want a specific rare. It's far less efficient if you're building a whole new ship as I am and wish to simply increase your background level of many mats at once. You get ~36 mats every minute which is far higher than any other method that I know of.

With HGEs, you get G5 materials for each category and you trade them down at material traders within their category to max out every material type (some people who get frustrated with pharmaceutical isolators cross-trade for something like shielding but I don't recommend it). With Dav's, most of it is low grade so it's likely something like 100 times slower.

I don't know. I hung out with the Buckyballers, and was even in some of the races. Those guys are on another level with the speeds they achieve. They don't even touch the ground most of the time.

Not me. I just mosey. :)
Not touching the ground actually makes things easier :) It's so much easier to spin out if your wheels are down.

Hmm, science needed.. It takes quite a while to get each HGE in my experience so I'm not 100% sure if it works out. It might though, it'd be interesting to test. I do use HGE a fair bit as well, I just like to start out with a good background level of lots of the basic mats. Also.. I kinda enjoy Dav's hope 🙃

Sounds good :) Is that Buckeyball discord still active?
Yes definitely. Hasn't been races for a while but they're taking about a new racing series this year

How does one learn to not suck at going fast with a SRV, asking for a friend.
In no particular order:
  • Drive with 1,2,3 pips in engines to practise the handling on rocky worlds (better grip), reduces the acceleration and means the wheels spin out less and so do you.
  • with 4 pips tapping the handbrake can be used to stop a spin and straighten out your line
  • Boost over the rough bits as nerwan says.
  • Land very slightly nose down with both front wheels landing at the same time
  • learn how to flyve (i can't find Alec's video right now, I'll post it in the morning)

Your that helps your friend :)

When i was doing it i did yeah. Its surprising how close you don't have to be to trigger the cargo scoop. Just swipe past it. There's no follow my leader route. As long as you get the mats and get back to the gate... winning is winning.
